Cricket world cup (non QPR) 09:24 - Oct 5 with 24229 views | GaryBannister86 | Can't believe it's 4 years since one of the best sporting days of my life.... Would be great to win it in India, tough ask I feel. Sad to see such a small crowd for the opener. I know the ground holds 132,000 but that is pathetic. India cricket fans can be so one-eyed sometimes. Why not turn up to see some great players on show? [Post edited 5 Oct 2023 9:24]

Can you really see it? I am afraid I dont think we can and neither do we deserve it. We need a new one day captain after this tournament too although he cannot have been the only one to decide about that toss

Cricket world cup (non QPR) on 14:56 - Oct 21 by Rangersw12 | Get used to it as there isn't going to be any 50 over cricket bar World Cups going forward |
Agree and even in my lifetime I think a 50 over WC will be scrapped But the sooner we admit this 100 is sh!te and no one else wants it, the better I went with my SIL to the Oval and there just doesn't seem to be any fans as such. I don't think the English cricket fan accepts franchise cricket as other nations do And no test cricket August is ..... well shameful [Post edited 21 Oct 2023 17:53]

Bangladesh, NZ and SA hardly play any 50 over cricket so I don’t think you can blame the hundred.

Read an interview on Cricinfo from Root and it echos your post Chef.... they don't really seemed arsed about it. Root as played something ridiculous, 19 ODIs since the end of the last WC in 2019 to the start of this one. The player that has played the most Roy, is not even in the team After the WI in December the next ODI is Australia late next year in the UK. It is either a dieing format or we just don't care about it [Post edited 24 Oct 2023 9:12]

Yes, the first time Afghanistan have beaten Pakistan in one day internationals. They needed to get 283, so, a reasonably high total, but did it with an over and eight wickets to spare. They never looked troubled and camly knocked off the runs. Pakistan were sloppy in the field but Afghanistan's running between the wickets was excellent. Hats off to the team and their coach, Jonathan Trott. Oh, and come on England. We're currently bottom!

Sadly it looks like the 50 over ODI format is dying. The T20 monster that we created 20 years ago is crushing everything in it's wake. I think the T20 World Cup will become the de facto Cricket World Cup before too long.

Probably true. But I don't think ODIs are necessarily dying - but the way they set up these world cups certainly doesn't help. Why don't they set it up like the football with four groups of four teams? Get more associate countries involved?

Cricket world cup (non QPR) on 10:02 - Oct 24 with 1561 views | GaryBannister86 | Like everything else with cricket these days (sadly) , it will depend on what India do and think. If India wins this tournament, I suspect it will thrive for a long time yet. If they go out limply in the semi finals, it will be as dead as a dodo.

Stokes only has a certain amount of cricket left in his body, so it should all be as captain of the test side. He shouldn't play any more games if / when we lose this one. [Post edited 26 Oct 2023 11:33]

Agreed - the umpire was guessing there. Woakes is useless abroad anyway, but umpires forget these days that the benefit of the doubt needs to go to the batter.
