Wimbledon Fred on 16:38 - Jul 22 by BrianMcCarthy | Sorry, man, but these boys have a Rangers shirt on and they're trying to get a first-team shirt. Attitude, intensity, pace, aggression all way below where it needs to be. |
Honest question - does it NEED to be the same in PSF in July as 1st match in August v Watford? Not sure it does/should be. Early entry in the 23/24 agree to disagree file Brian!
Wimbledon Fred on 16:56 - Jul 22 with 3579 views | joolsyp | Duke-McKenna looked like he wanted to fight the whole Wimbledon side. Can't accuse of him of not being up for it - I just don't think he quite has the ability for this level, would love him to prove me wrong.

First XI? We’ve got about a first 6.

Wimbledon Fred on 16:46 - Jul 22 by davman | Not good enough are they? All this blx about "attitude" and "application" will be enough to see us through is, well, blx. Last years back up wasn't good enough; this year, many of them are up in the pecking order and the second team is much, much worse. Dress it up all you want, package it how you want and play the "see where we are in 10 games" crap all you want, but this lot are heading towards a record low points haul. |
BUT "this lot" isn't the final squad at final levels of fitness and organisation. Don't see that as 'dressing it up" - more factual I think.

Not pointless for the coaching staff. They will have learned a lot from that performance, both good and bad. Wouldn't be surprised if we get two or three in on loan, probably Willock to leave, some of the youngsters out on loan. Really need backup for Dykes, a right-back and a strong, athletic, quick midfielder to play alongside/in front of Field.

Agree. Also another centre-back as I think we all know we're not getting a lot of games from JCS.
Wimbledon Fred on 17:14 - Jul 22 with 3019 views | numptydumpty | Crikey remind me not to reread a match thread First half was definitely decent Second half very disjointed due to constant changes and less able players Kelman should have scored the winner in a game that means nothing. Some of the comments on here dreadfully negative. For me the front four Dykes, Willock, Chair, Richards looked decent. Field and Dozzzel both feisty and Begovic seems like a good old pro. Disappointments for me were Kakay. Definitely feel we need a decent right back and Armstrong was disappointing today. Kelman definitely bulked up a little but rushed when got couple of chances. Pedder seemed a busy player and was reasonably impressed. Last season we had record number of injuries If we pull put of a couple of strong challenges in a meaningless friendly, I have no issue with that. People saying its Rangers. Got to give one hundred percent passion always and in all games. So if they had done that and we picked up three new injuries in this game, guessing people would be happy. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 [Post edited 22 Jul 2023 17:17]

Got to say agree Negativity knows no bounds. Worst ever points haul after ten games. Let's revisit that, ten games in !!!

Fair comment. I wouldn't expect 100%, but I would expect far more effort than today. Happy to "agree to disagree", though. Overall, I thought there were some encouraging signs. What did everyone make of Gubbins?

Wimbledon Fred on 17:30 - Jul 22 with 2707 views | essextaxiboy | It can only be because people want to say they were right all along . I can’t think of any other reasons to be so negative before the squad is even finalised and the season doesn’t start for a fortnight ..
Wimbledon Fred on 17:31 - Jul 22 with 2680 views | VancouverHoop | Disappointments for me were Kakay. Definitely feel we need a decent right back and Armstrong was disappointing today. It's players like these, and Kelman and Drewe that'll be the test of Ainsworth's tenure for me. They've been around the club for a while so several coaches have seen something there but, for whatever reason haven't helped them to take the next step. If he can do that, it could be the making of both him, as a coach, and the team.

Gubbins? He looks far to lightweight to be a centre back. We need another one asap. I can now see why Warburton didn't think he was good enough. Shame.
Wimbledon Fred on 17:36 - Jul 22 with 2600 views | traininvain | Difficult to read too much into friendlies but we do seem to struggle against teams we’re expected to beat under Ainsworth (see all the six pointers we blew last season). Maybe linked to this ‘underdogs’ mindset that he seems keen to instil at the club. I can see the benefit against teams with a much bigger budget but we need to find a way to play on the front foot at times with effective patterns of attacking play.
