Brexit has failed says Farage 07:59 - May 17 with 8605 viewsKilkennyjack

And yet some posters on here still will not accept the facts.

Felix - i assume you will now agree with your Mr Farage ? 🇬🇧

Beware of the Risen People

It's beyond laughable that there are still people out there who will claim that the EU Government isn't an unelected cabal who consider the democratic will of the people that they ostensibly govern as vitally important.

The EU is a closed shop run in the best interests of politicians, corporations and French farmers.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

You make it sound that we had no voice.

That’s simply not true.

Input into policy and directives, MEPs, vetoes, a 95%+ agreement rate.

Closer ties are inevitable and the timeframe is getting shorter.

I am not saying he is right or wrong but if we look at things sensibly.

Farage who some have claimed to have lied are now saying he is telling the truth here.
Think it all comes down to what people want to hear.

Farage is a first class clown, he championed Brexit for yrs before the vote, trouble was that it took another 6 yrs before Brexit was actually acted on after the vote.

Its an absolute joke, those that voted for it and they probably would have never have if it had been known it would have taken all those yrs to implement it, so much had changed in the yrs between that was ridiculous.

Unfortunately the EU "Parliament" had little power, does not make policy or decide the further direction of THE EU. That is left to the 28 EU commissioners and the President of the Council all of whom are appointed not elected representatives.

There is no equivalence at all.

Nobody on the remain side lied like Johnson, Mogg and Farage did.

Brexit could never work. Not ever.
And it never will.

Its a dumb ass idea at its core.
Stupid, untruthful and possibly Russian funded. We will see once we drag them out of power.

No equivalence? The government of the day put out a pro breit leaflet, they warned of massive tax rises, 3 million unemployed....the simple fact is no matter what lies remain told you would never see equivalence.

Of course brexit could work, it still could work if not for useless politicians.

Once we drag them out of power is a pointless remark because there's no going back, Starmer has said he won't look at it, he won't even look at just hoining the single market,

You think we’ve had no voice?

How would you describe our veto?

Which laws/directives have we been dragged into kicking and screaming that have had a detrimental effect on everyday uk life?

Gwyn, you know that they were/are doing away with vetoes. Even so, if we were to rejoin we wouldn't be allowed a veto again. They want qualified majority voting. If we went back in we would be in a worse position than the one that helped persuade so many people to vote leave.

When you talk about detrimental effect, many people would say the open borders rule was detrimental. The rule that the ECJ having primacy over all members was detrimental froma democratic point of view.

People wanted self determination not to be told what to do by unelected commissioners and presidents in Brussels.

One mans meat as the saying goes.

There’s a proposal in the pipeline to remove the veto as there are frustration with Hungary’s position on Russia, however the proposal is unlikely to get off the ground because countries can veto the proposal to remove the veto!

Any ruling be the EUROPEAN COURTS that overrule the laws made by our Parliament and which our Supreme Court passe Judgement on. How can a single EUROPEAN judge rule that WE must not deport illegal immigrants when we are no longer in the EU.

That's post-Brexit isn't it?

Whist in the EU we could have done couldn't we? We just chose not to.

The question I asked was when we were in the EU, what directives we we forced to abide by that were so terrible for us?

And coming out of the EU has helped our borders how?

Having to follow EU buisness directives gave us access to the single market and consumer protections of the highest standard. Worth it IMO - food standards, safety standards, workers right etc.

I won't respond on the veto as MR has covered it.

You'll have to indulge me here because I don't know but honest question which of workers rights, food standards and safety standards have been lowered since Brexit?

Our borders are worse now but not because it had to be that way, simply because the tories are a bunch of stinking, useless idiots.

We need a change of government, urgently. If the tories were really interested in what was best for the Uk they'd call a GE. But then, the rules around that were changed weren't they.

Nobody expects that Putin will ever face up to that warrant, he is not being forced to leave Russia to be arrested.

The EU wanted the ECJ to still hold sway over British courts, to have final say on any laws or judgements the EU didn't like.

Any court can issue a warrant against anyone, anywhere in the world but it doesn't mean they have the powers to enforce it.

To answer that last question briefly off the top of my head the common agricultural policy which is an incredibly regressive policy that tends to benefit only the huge richer farming corporations who don’t need the subsidies in the first place putting many small farms out of business whilst giving the big corporations a monopoly which pushes up food prices whilst also harming trade and development in agriculture in Africa and other developing countries.

The fisheries policy that again harmed small independent fisher businesses whilst benefitting the larger richer corporations with their massive trawler boats again creating virtual monopolies and driving up costs (bit of a pattern emerging here?)

The introduction of VAT which again is a hugely regressive tax that slaps an extra 20% cost onto necessary every day services and goods which lower income people can scarcely afford.

On a lower scale the incredibly irritating “do you consent to cookies” pop up thing on literally every single site you visit. So annoying.

Numerous “green” laws and levies that do nothing to actually help the climate or environment but instead act as a never ending cash cow driving up costs (again?) and only serves to throw up barriers to anything we actually need being built.

But for me the actual laws don’t particularly matter. We already have the Senedd and Westminster making an absolute shit show of things. Why do we need yet another lot of politicians above that?

The EU has set minumim standards in things like holiday entilement, parental leave, minumum wage, health and safety legislation and food welfare standards.

If the UK had, has and always will have higher standards than those required by EU law, then why did we need to leave?

They'd have no impact on us anyway. I keep getting told that we were tied up un EU red tape. Doesn't look like it.

Apologies but I'll have to be brief as just going into a meeting.

1. Yes the CAP was flawed, however we did benefit from massive subsidies that keep many of our farmers alfloat. Over time farmers in general are regretting the move.

2. See above

3. We have the power to lower VAT to 15% if we wanted to. Again, it's not perfect but it is fair across the board and easily collectable with some sensible exceptions such as children's clothing. There may be a better way but examples like sales tax in the US would be a nightmare

4. Cookies are annoying however the EU regs on GDPR are very useful,

5. Green laws - a political hot potato and everyone will have their own thoughts. I like the water regs mind

6. I get this one. One of the reasions I was pro-remain is I don't trust our lot and saw the EU as providing some helpful checks and balances.

What remain said was the truth.
So called Project Fear was the truth.

Taxation - highest for 70 years, labour shortages killing the NHS, bottom for economic growth, etc

Brexit can never work.
Blame the EU, blame the uk politicians, blame the judges, blame the civil service, blame the unions, blame everyone and anyone except Brexit.

Johnson, Gove, and Farage lied repeatedly - Turkey have not joined the EU for example.

A smaller economy means less opportunity, less jobs and less tax paid.

Brexit can never work.
Starmer will call it something else, but the uk will realign under a Labour government and we will all be better off for it. 🇪🇺

Taxation isn't high now becayse of brexit, it's because the tories are rubbish. Don't forget all the green taxes we pay and fr what? To be told we all have to pay even more.

The NHS has been in trouble for decades, every year it has gotten worse.

We dont have the labour shortage because there's nobody who can work but there are plenty of people who have just given up after covid, early retirements are high. Then there' people who are leaving the country, NHS workers have been leaving in droves for Australia, NZ and even Canada. Again, that's our rubbish governments. In areas where there are actually plenty of jobs and they can't recruit it is ften because people don't want to do those jobs, specially at the offered wages.

Where are the 3 million unemployed?

The fact is that we are where we are partly because of brexit, the Ukraine war and covid which has all been exacerbated by our utterly useless politicians.
