People should go for it. Overall target for recruitment (which is based on the number of teachers needed for the number of children in the system) was missed by 29% in 2022/23.

There are so many routes in now, you can be in the classroom in September with a salary, enjoying the long holidays, short days and gold plated pension.

I can’t understand why people don’t just crack on as it’s such a doss…

I’m not a teacher nor am I married to one, but I do know several teachers. What I can say is the ones I know worked exceptionally hard during Covid. I was talking to a science head of department the other day, he had to rewrite all his lesson plans for every class to make them suitable for online delivery, deliver them via zoom and then check and test to ensure the kids understood.
Ever done a conference call with 30 people on it and had to check every last attendee understood every aspectb of what had been covered.

My mother was a teacher. Seeing her workload was enough to convince me never to become one.

The holidays are ok, If you don't like flexibility.

Of course most teachers can't afford to actually go anywhere on holiday at a time they actually can.

Sounds like a dream job.

Must be why there’s a queue round the block to get into the profession.

My mate is a teacher up in Scotland he’s fuming the union turned down the offer without asking members. He’s got going to participate in any further strikes.

Reps don't have to consult their members at every turn or every offer, it would take too long. They get what they believe is a good offer and then put it to the members
