Former Dale defender Phil Dwyer has passed away.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Awful news. One of my favourite Dale players. A real class act. Think he arrived here with Dave Grant, but he wasn't here as long as I would have hoped.

I remember he joined the Police when he retired from football.

A Dale great. Rest in Peace, Phil.

His arrival with Grant at the end of March in 84/85 turned results around as Joe Cooke finally had some solid defenders alongside him. Dwyer stayed until the end of that season, a proper old fashioned centre half of which you don’t really see anymore.

Sad news.

An excellent player who helped us towards an unexpected higher finish in 84/85, although I'm not sure he played long enough to be classed as a 'great'.

He just oozed class, even at that stage of his career. One of the best players I saw in a Dale shirt, regardless of how long he was with us.

He was an excellent player, as I said.

He was a Cardiff City great, that's for sure.
