And, fairs fair, Done has done ok recently. LB is actually not that important when the whole defence and the way we defend hasn’t improved.

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Milton Keynes on 21:59 - Feb 9 with 2630 views | EllDale | And there was me actually thinking at halftime that we could go on and win this one. But the second half was shameful, shambolic, turgid. Outmuscled, outfought, outplayed by an average League One outfit. At least we have a Plan B now. We’ve signed a long throw specialist. How many times have I stood in the Sandy and barracked hoofball teams who employed such a tactic? To be fair, at least Shaughnessy got a mention in commentary for those throws because I thought that he was totally anonymous apart from that. Sorry Mr Barry-Murphy it’s time to go. And take your sidekick Mr Riley with you who is totally out of his depth away from boys football. And take your recruitment czar with you as well. The bloke who couldn’t prise Blackpool’s third choice leftback from Bloomfield Road. A lot of the senior pros like McLaughlin and Lund didn’t look best pleased as they scuttled off the pitch either. That team spirit might not last long at this rate. The big fear now is that we get some real kickings before the end of the season. The likes of Portsmouth, Hull, Lincoln will see us ripe for the plucking in a real turkey shoot to boost their goal difference. And even crap teams will be wanting to play us in a bid to turn their seasons around. Totally depressed tonight.

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Milton Keynes on 21:54 - Feb 9 by James1980 | Maybe ask re the LB. When did Brian identify the chap from Blackpool as a target? Did they say no straight away and we tried to coax them into releasing their play or did it look like he was heading to Rochdale and the rug was pulled out from under us at the last minute? |
Thats a possibility, but in that case it shows naivety. We desperately needed a left back, the window was open for 30 days. It shouldn't get to that situation were we had 1 target on the last day.

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Milton Keynes on 22:01 - Feb 9 with 2600 views | NorthernDale | We looked so disjointed it was shocking, the team lacked structure and looked as if BBM had just sent them onto the pitch without any instructions. I have no doubt he will say (if he is still in his job) that the players have not performed to the normal levels, but they are still developing. BBM sometimes give the impression that he is still a youth coach, in which developing players is more important then winning games. What got me, instead of starting with the experienced Mcloughlin at right back, he started with the inexperienced in relative terms 'Osho', who is primary a CD at right back. In midfield he started with an inexperienced midfielder in Shaunghessy, despite having Keohane on the bench, who may have stiffened the defence. I am often baffled by his team selection, at least Dooley was not in the squad tonight. Perhaps he is saving him for the 6 pointer at Wimbledon on Saturday.

I was responding to the question about why didn't we sign a left back in January. We tried to sign a left back and it didn't happen. Where we chasing a loan move tat was never going to happen or were we scuppered late in the day. I am fully aware it won't just be lack of left back that will see us starting next season in league 2 if we go down.

But having one target buys into the whole togetherness lark. The coaching staff can genuinely make the player feel wanted. You are the only LB we want to sign, you will be first choice if fit etc etc.

Just caught up on that. It’s very disappointing. All that needs saying that if someone is giving a fair, balanced assessment of the situation taking into account numerous factors, they’re entitled to an opinion and for that opinion to be respected even if it’s not agreed with. That applies on here too. There can be little doubt that vast majority have almost been praying for things to change so that BBM’s obvious potential could be realised. For anyone with an understanding of the game and able to put aside their own views for a second, it’s clear that he has a lot of good attributes and if anything we could have counted ourselves lucky to have had someone like him over the last couple of years. By the same token, it’s possible to look at it objectively and recognise that something needs to change to get results to stay up. This is not currently progression.

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Milton Keynes on 22:19 - Feb 9 with 2296 views | mikehunt | Shoite!! Let’s face it they could have had eight tonight. We were battered. Only got our goal because of their quick free kick mistake. Keef got the poke after a spell of being battered every game. Perhaps now is the time to be brave again. We must beat Wimbledon this week otherwise I’m of the opinion Brian should go. Anyone can lead a team to four goal defeats every match.

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Milton Keynes on 21:32 - Feb 9 by dingdangblue | He signed Lonergan and McShane so he can. Bazunu is a liability now though - he looks like a kid in goal and I can't see where a clean sheet is coming from. He's getting absolutely no protection from his defenders. Every game is a car crash waiting to happen. Hopefully there are some harsh words in the changing room and the players and manager can clear the air - Humphrys certainly will be saying things the way he just ran down the tunnel when subbed - something needs to happen tonight. |
Hill brought in Lonergan (as a player)

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Milton Keynes on 22:23 - Feb 9 with 2250 views | SaxonDale | Think one of BBM's problems is almost Ancient-Greek style of managing where all players seem to express their opinion and then they come to a formation/selection almost based on that. A few podcasts have suggested this is very much BBM's style- which is fine, as long as you have a dressing room full of valid opinions! Think BBM probably underestimated the loss of key personalities like Wilbraham, Henderson, Lonergan (going further back) in helping his decision making and his style of management simply doesn't seem to work with this current group.

Look, everybody here will understand that she defends BBM to the hilt, no matter what. However, her personal attack on Chris is a disgrace and completely uncalled for. Fitz nowt but respectful and courteous in his replies. I do hope Sarah-Jane isn’t too proud to apologise and continues debating in a respect manner once she’s calmed down.

What stands out is how he mentions the way we didn’t respond well to conceding three goals so quickly in the second half, when it’s that we are conceding them that is the problem, not how we react afterwards.

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Milton Keynes on 21:51 - Feb 9 by rich_dale | Playing Lund at centre forward isn't working. Yes he scored tonight but he was already doing that consistently from midfield. We're missing his presence, bite and control in the middle - he looks frustrated and not as happy playing further forward. Agree it's time to rest Roberts - a promising footballer but lacking defensive nous. Osho is probably our best central defender now and not a full back. Bazunu needs coaching. Shaughnessy was the only positive for me tonight, looks like he can give us a bit of physicality and composure in the spine of the team, although the long throw weapon threatens upsetting our misfiring purist philosophy. |
Shaunessy's long throws are certainly a goal threat - MK Dons broke upfield from one of them and scored!
