gr1 - thanks for this. Spellbinding to watch and listen to this interview. It brought back lots of great memories. What a great guy Dave Clement was - and what a great insight to such a decent man. 472 appearances for QPR and 5 England caps. Good to see Stan Bowles running around the training pitch too. I was lucky enough to interview Clement several times when I was a very young local sports editor. He was as nice as pie - just like the interview. What a tragic end - at the age of just 34 - to someone who could have given so much - just like the young football kids listening to him in the piece. Clement was - as many of you know - part of QPR's greatest team in my opinion. It was created by manager Gordon Jago - another great guy - who always asked me (and I accepted of course) to return on the team bus from away matches. Fun times. Jago eventually went to the U.S. He told me he wanted a good education for his daughter. Still lives in Florida I think. And of course here's the best QPR team. How could I forget. Parkes Clement, Webb, McLintock, Gillard, Francis, Masson (the playmaker), Hollins (and add earlier Busby too before he broke his leg) Givens, Thomas, Bowles. Sub - Leach who could play anywhere. I'm sure I've left someone out? Those were great days.
Remember we once had 5 players from that team in the England squad...... halcyon days Until posted i never realise Micky Leach or li-lo as he was affectionately know as, was still around in the 76 team He was replaced as I remember by Frank Clarke as CF Another much maligned player Alan Wilkes who i think still holds the individual scoring record for us 5 in one match against Oxford in the LC
Fantastic but so sad knowing the poor blokes ending.
He was a proper RB and proper footballer and such an athlete.
I presume that the boy hitting the golf ball was his son Paul......some other great names in the pictures as well....Clive Allen, Hucker, Bowlesy and a few more.
That is a great watch which has brought back memories of his days at QPR. I was fortunate to work with his to be father in law and frequently spent Saturday evenings with Dave,Pat and John having a meal and a drink or two quite often in Chiswick. He was a fairly quiet guy but loved playing football and would often sort me out a ticket,sometimes in the boardroom area, at away games. It was a great tragedy when and how he died I think but not sure he was suffering with a knee injury that in those days usually meant the finish of your career but probably now could be sorted out.

A recurring theme among several of those players (Parkes, Gillard etc) how few international caps they won) On a different tack, kind of ironic that due to social media we are in closer contact with players than ever, but in terms or 'normal' meeting up/bumping into, we are light years apart
Does anyone remember the testimonial match the club had for Dave's family after his tragic death.I went but to be honest left at half time to go back to the pub.It was if i remember right QPR v a sort of exQPR X1 i cant remember anything about the game but everything about the pub because it was the first time i went for a drink with my Dad and his mates.The Western Arms just off Ladbroke Grove was the boozer and i learnt more about my Dad than i really wanted to know ! great memories.

And me. I met him walking up SAR pre match when he had his knee strapped and a crutch, had a quick chat and asked about it and he said I should be back in a few weeks. He obviously never did.

Good info, thanks. Clearly made in 76 or 77, due to his reference to playing 15 years for Rangers. Also prior to his transfer to Bolton as they talked about what might happen if he ever were to be transferred, and also Parkes walks out the tunnel before him.

Of the young players I obviously recognised Hucker and Allen - anyone put a name to the others?
Dean Wilkins was the player in the home shirt you saw first in the clip (in between Allen & Hucker).
The film was from late 1977 as when the interviewer asks young Paul his favourite player, he says Dave Needham and Needham was sold to Forest in December 1977.
Such different times when a first division player who was an England international lives in a bog standard house on a housing estate and drives a Morris Marina.
