Lotto News on 12:06 - May 27 with 3236 views | Reedy | So I’ve received my letter today as a member stating it’s going direct debit. One thing that confuses me is that the return address on the envelope is for an PO BOX in Bath of all places, and the return free post envelope has no address on it, I imagine this will confuse a lot of people as they won’t know whether to send it to the club or the return address in Bath? Is this just mine or have others received the same?

From what I can gather: The lotteries manager was furloughed (as millions have been so nothing strange in that) The club then take the decision to sack all agents, with no input from the lotteries manager or anyone else for that matter. Club then put the article on the website regarding the sacking of agents with no one having prior knowledge, even those who work at the club. In my opinion, this has been planned for a long time (we all had suspicions of this) and the pandemic has given them a suitable excuse to hide behind. For the record I’m going to see my members to see who would be willing to go with DD and who will stop when (if) the doorstep collections stop. I will report back. My missus (who doesn’t really have an interest in football) showed me a thread of comments on a Facebook page. It was a member saying how disgusted he was that this decision had been made and he won’t be taking up there offer, this didn’t really surprise me. But the amount of people below saying they wouldn’t do it anymore was surprising. The most telling comment was a conversation between a member and their agent, the member said and I quote: “Please cancel mine, if you can no longer collect my money they can lose my custom. My loyalty is to you. Let’s hope everyone cancels”

I understand that, but I’m going to check they’ve got their letters and I’m also going to ask if they will be signing up by DD or will cancel.

I got my letter this morning, from "I" and "we" and it incredibly asks: "In order for the club to be able to restart the lottery we require a substantial number of members to convert to Direct Debit and I would like to ask for your help and support to spread the word and help us achieve this target" How else would a collector spread the word to existing members in attempting to convert them without going around them all? Un-fookin-believable.

I do think there will be very little (if any) who take up the direct debit option, as it’s been rejected by them all the past. Shocking that it took a week after the announcement for you to receive your letter. It really couldn’t have been communicated any worse.

The club cannot be held responsible for the Royal Mail. Yesterday I received a letter for another address. These things happen.

“Can I still pay £0.50 per week? Unfortunately, we no longer accept £0.50 entries into the weekly draw. Members can either pay £1 per week and receive 2 x entries into the draw, or £2 per week and receive 4 entries into the draw, doubling your chances of winning.” The sign up form only allows somebody to sign up for £2 a week https://paymymembership.co.uk/dale/ [Post edited 28 May 2020 13:36]

In a brief moment of lucid thought, I wondered why the Trust couldnt take on the Gold Bond , 50p a week , raffle / draw thingy? All the essential infrastructure ie people , is/are still available and it would definitely strengthen the trust financially and thus give them a better hand to play when dealing with the club.

Buying a ticket to support a local football club is one thing, buying a ticket to support a supporters trust of that club is another. Furthermore, I could be wrong here but I suspect that the club will have certain rights re the ‘Gold Bond’ and will unlikely want it competing with its new lottery. [Post edited 28 May 2020 17:13]

Did you actually read the post? You know the bit where it mentions people already being in place like the dozens of collectors who have just been given the bums rush without so much as a proper thank you? The ones who mostly found out all their years of efforts on cold nights in the pouring rain were actually valued at around sweet F.A. by reading a website rather than by what used to be known as a formal letter with a proper, fulsome thankyou and a cogent explanation of why the decision had been taken? And now we find that the club are asking collectors to do one more round to persuade people to donate £2 a week by DD or similar. Either someone at the club is seriously diluted or has a very macabre sense of humour. Sadly it seems the club I have supported for the better part of 60 years now is being run with Premiership attitudes and a Sunday League skills set.

Just received my letter. There is an option on the form to pay £1 per week for the '2 membership package', which equates to a £53.31 payment to start with, then £52 per year starting in 12 months. That makes mathematical sense. (Apart from the extra £1.31 on the first payment) To pay £2 per week instead, for the '4 membership package', the respective costs are £106.62 & £104. Again, that works mathematically. However, if you chose '2 memberships' from the dropdown menu here: https://paymymembership.co.uk/dale/ , the costs are £213.22, then £208. If you change that on the link to '1 membership, those costs halve. So, unless I'm missing something, what is defined as '1 membership' on the online link is the same cost as '4 memberships' on the form. Similar discrepancies occur for other 'memberships'. It's making my head hurt... [Post edited 29 May 2020 13:12]
