Away allocation - Wigan 09:39 - Oct 29 with 6100 views | grfn | After purchasing my ticket I was informed by on of the Swansea ticket office workers that it was not possible to select particular seat as it is allocated seating. Does it mean I will know my seat number when I receive my ticket? Or should be informed about that earlier? I was on only one away Swansea game earlier and I could choose specific seating when I was buying my ticket. Thanks.

Lovely scenery on that route up through the Marches. Downside: it's about 4 and a quarter hours from Swansea to Manchester on this route, usually only two or three carriages, and if you're unlucky, all the toilets might be out of order. It's particularly cruel on smokers. I used to jump off at Crewe (where it often stops for 5-10 minutes) and have a fag on the platform - until smoking was banned on platforms. Now, thanks to e-cigs, I can smoke with impunity in the train's toilets. Used to be a very reasonably priced route as well, but is now absurdly over-priced.

| Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Will get an over 50’ies ticket £ 28 return until the end November. You’re spot on though mate. The old Arriva two coach specials. Did you ever come across the singing conductor on that line? Absolute star. [Post edited 30 Oct 2019 22:47]

When i first moved up north and before i started driving i used to get the preston - crewe -- cardiff - swansea train. Fvck me that was a long arduous journey, especially the crewe to cardiff train. Safe to say i dont miss it one iota.

And nothing to do with the 57 miles and 80 minutes to Wigan compared to 4h20min and minimum of 185 miles (over the hills) or 230+ by motorway then?

Yes, I did. A great laugh he was. Have come across quite a few amusing and eccentric conductors over the years, as well as the occasional humorous train manager, such as the one who made the following announcement over the tannoy (that's PA to younger folk) on a Hull-bound service I was on one night: "This train is now approaching Leeds", he said in the usual flat monotone, as about 90% of the passengers got out of their seats ready to leave the train. He then continued with this: "For all those leaving at Leeds...WHY? What has Hull ever done to you? Have you ever actually been there? No? Why not retake your seats, and just give Hull a chance?" The 90% who left that train must all have had smiles on their faces, I think.
