It seems to me that Brexit sounds the final bell for the 'Left wing' in this country.
They have deserted their principles, deserted their voters, deserted democracy, deserted the real world (evident in Parliament right now as they prefer to exist in their bubble, enjoying the platform and the sound of their own voices...pretending they haven't got to face the public)
My questions for you to discuss; Will the Labour Party be destroyed at the coming election? Will they continue to be the opposition? When are we likely to see a left-wing government in this country again?
This fella seems to have summed it up as well as anyone...

Membership of the European Union is a single issue, an important issue but a single issue. None of the major political parties were for leaving the EU or, for the longest time, willing to let the public vote on the issue. I voted Lib Dem in GE’s and UKIP in European Elections. Then the Lib Dem’s decided they wanted a referendum on the issue, good news for a Lib Dem like I was.
What has followed that referendum has opened my eyes. What has been said and done by people I used to support has shocked me into reassessing everything. I can no longer go along with the hypocrisy and the sanctimony. I am woke 😃
I was always for a deal but am fully aware that the EU won’t give us a deal that this country can live with without the threat of no deal on the table and while they have people in our parliament working on their behalf. This is the position of 90%+ of Brexit voters I believe.
You are for a deal ?

I do. I always have. I’ve said on here for many years I don’t understand how anyone can be far left or far right. It baffles me and doesn’t make sense to me. I kept on about it so much in the past your chum ECB told me to fuçk up.
Also I haven’t mentioned the massive hypocrite Ebo but seeing as you’ve mentioned him he’s a prime example of why people turn on the far left.
On a side note you can see the video doing the rounds on Twitter this morning of Dominic Cummings being approached by Karl Turner MP. Now I’ll be honest,up until several weeks ago I’d never heard of Cummings but over those several weeks I’ve read and seen enough to make up my mind that he’s one vile man who could do with a good hiding. But the video? What are the left taking out of today’s video that is so great? Andrews approaches Cummings and has a go at Cummings. I can’t see Cummings doing anything.
Which is the point Darran.. Most of us are moderate in views with a slight left (in my case) or right leaning. We have had the most right wing government in modern times which is lurching ever further to the right, with a radical left opposition. The only truly effective lurch to the left was the Atlee Government which brought in the NHS and the majority of State Support which was clearly needed post war and the Thatcher government were the only truly effective government who brought in a more capitalist-driven system. As loath as I am to say it, she helped a moribund economy, Blair was an effective Pm but that was a centrist government. Johnson is a twit with nasty people pulling his strings

It pleases me that such a learned scholar agrees with me.

Agree totally. Politically I’m in the same atmosphere as you Prof. I might have said before but, though I find it distasteful in the extreme I will vote LD next time around. We need to reset British politics. The ERG/Brexit boys club need to be put back in the Nanny Whiplash darkrooms they call home, and the Far Left neo Scotch Cattle need to sod off back to the smelly ‘squats’ of their banner waving youth. The reasonable right and the reasonable left should link arms with the LD (we can suffer 5 years of them) and restore order.

Thought this was the football board you boring bar steward. Unless it's left winger in the football sense, keep it out of the football board and on to the non-football board where you can argue the toss about these kinds of sweeping statements that you're never going to agree on.

As per the political compass at the last general election Plaid were yet again in the centre, very very fractionally to the left of the centre point, its always the same with Plaid, they are nearly always if not always the most middle of the road party in the UK , Lib-Dems were well to the right. Anybody in the centre ground of politics living in Wales should be voting Plaid.

Nearly ten years of these c*nts. Nearly ten years of these bastards killing off vulnerable people with their policies. Ten years of them selling off every possible public asset they possibly can. We've gotten to a point (for example) where the public, having paid for 'our' railway infrastructure, now pay sky high prices that benefit the treasuries of other countries. Not even Thatcher would have privatised the 'Queen's Head' either. Cameron had no such qualms.
Ten years of deliberate underfunding of the NHS after introducing private firms via the Health and Social Care Act 2012 - voted on by many with vested interests in private healthcare companies.
Ten years of the academisation of education (in England, at least); essentially just yet another way of funnelling public money into private hands.
We've also seen the Lib Dem lickspittles enabling them; being complicit in trebling tuition fees despite them pledging not to. Hope it was worth it Nick, five years of Mephistophelian power. (I'm not sure if that's a word, it's early.)
Let's not forget the wrecking ball they've taken to the justice system in this country either. Read 'The Secret Barrister' if you want the whole sorry saga.
And there's Brexit. People actually think that a man who used to belong to a club whose initiation ceremony involved burning £50 notes in front of the homeless is somehow being denied 'the will of the people.' What part of 'he's representing currency speculators' is tricky to grasp? A bought and paid for whore to finance, suckling on the teat of Mammon like most soulless Tories are wont.
Then we get people who, after nearly ten years are pointing the finger at other parties; parties that have not been in power during that time. F*ck off. And when you get there, f*ck off some more.
The whole left/right paradigm is essentially moribund these days anyway, surely? Just more divide and conquer bullshit. What do the Tories actually have to do with small 'c' conservatism? Absolutely nothing. Whores to finance - always have been, always will be. If the veil hasn't lifted at the present time it's clear it never will.

Sorry, I live in England 😢
There is a great lack of choice for English voters, basically extremes only in England, typically the parties in the centre are Plaid, SNP and SDLP with one being in Wales, one in Scotland and one in N.Ireland.

We have indeed gone through difficult times. On the Left some things have stayed the same, some have changed. Yet to my eye there was more integrity in the old order. People like Jack don’t seem to me to know their own history.

Ah - the 70s! Jezza and Co. are still stuck there. Lexiters who think the EU is "an impediment to true Socialism, comrades"). At least they are in the right century I suppose.
The world has changed, Brexiters seem blissfully, or more likely, wilfully unaware.

I was, of course, writing about history and a time when few said the Left was dead.
But the Growth and Stability Pact and the 'Six Pack' operate today and it seems that few on the PS 'Left' know their content. They probably think that that other 20th Century hero Neil Kinnock was right when he said Europe would protect Social Democracy when Labour could not win. I'm not sure the Greeks would buy that now.

The Greeks can’t buy anything for the next couple of centuries.

Wow what a rant, of course the UK did really well under Blair & Brown didn't we? They virtually killed the NHS and Schools with their PFI initiative. To say nothing of flogging our Gold, Brown sold of public assets to raise £16Billion. Then there was that little illegal war that Balir got us in to, for which he should have faced a War Crimes tribunal.

Why has this thread not been moved? Apart from being not about football it is a silly one sided rant that ignores the utter mess the right has made of running the count over the past 11 years.
