Or we should hope our fans don't go mental over signings just because it's not a big name? What do you mean by hype up, stating there's a new arrival with an airport tweet? It's our fans who hype it up too much
He's an u23 player who had never played a first team game. The hype around the signing (on the website) probably adds extra pressure that he could do without.
Regardless of that it could be a promising signing. I read that they paid £800k for him when he was 16

I do think the club go overboard sometimes, but this is just a standard announcement, no?
Austin aside, we’ve never really replaced Les Ferdinand when he left in 1996. And yet we’ve managed several promotions; won the Ibiza Cup; and got to an FA Cup fifth (5th) round.
Personally, I think strikers are overrated bellyachers. You look at one aggressively and the prat is on the floor claiming all sorts. Useless f.....s to a man. In view of how well we’ve done without their sort sullying the shirt, I say if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
How many do we need pal? Leistner and Barbet possibly first choice. I would have thought they should be good enough at mid- Championship level along with Hall and Furlong as back ups. And now we have Ball and Masterson. That's six. Do we need six Centre Backs? No, what we need are at least two strikers - otherwise we are going to have to rely on Oteh and Walker. Shoot me now.
Yes we're going to pile them up on the goal line behind Joe Lumley. Clean sheets guaranteed!
I included the new goalie and Ball, who has played most of his games in defence apparently. My point is that we are signing a number of players who can play Centre Back and nobody (yet) who can play up front where we are particularly light. To paraphrase your point, no new forwards after 'releasing' three forwards (Hemed, Wells and Smith).
We did sell a keeper as well so again replacing one who has gone.
We will sign strikers but likely to be late in the window when more become available and slightly cheaper much like last year

Honest answer? If one of them is as injury prone as Grant Hall and you have no youth options to fill in, at least five.
Two starters, with at least one up to that kind of standard to back up. Then a real backup a la Baptiste, Ball. And then you take whatever you can get from the injury prone Hall.
Furlong doesn't see himself as a center back at this point so that makes Conor the 5th.
So yeah, we need strikers. But we also needed another dedender, which we now have. Which is a good thing.

Why don't you wait until August 9th to be shot? Otherwise, you might be dead when while we sign the strikers we obviously need and will clearly get.

From memory Masterson was on the verge of first team at Liverpool before he got injured last year, he was playing in the same team as Trent Arnold prior to Arnold breaking into the first team. Klopp spoke very highly of Masterson, think it was just unfortunate timing of his injury and the strength Liverpool have currently in that area that led to him being realised. Have seen him playing in the Ireland underage teams and he if definitely one of the better players in a competitive team. Think Ball has been signed as a player to cover mainly full back 4 Leister, Barbet, Hall & Masterson will be the 4 centre backs within Wallace, Furlong & Ball (Rangel?) as the full back options.
Nothing wrong with finding a bit of joy in a new signing.
Blaming hype for brats and sociopaths later acting like cnts when things go wrong is putting the cart before the horse and absolves people of responsibility for their actions.

Do you really think it's a good idea to wait until August? Wouldn't it be better for Warburton to have signed the striker/strikers he wants in order to integrate them early and select them in pre-season friendlies?
Adding also the fact that our defence for the last few years has been very leaky. We finally sign defenders and people start moaning!
With regards to strikers, you need to make money to spend money. Sell Freeman and possibly Luongo, then you have that money.
It's all about balance hombre. Read my posts properly and you will realise that I'm not 'moaning' about signing defenders, Christ knows we need a better defence than last season, it's the number of defenders we've signed. If we go on to sign five strikers then I'll be the first to say I've been too quick to criticise our recruitment policy. Whoever we eventually sign to play up top though, I'd be surprised if we use much of the Freeman and Luongo monies to pay for them. I suspect that the club's remit is to pay nothing or next to nothing for all signings this season and that should mean looking at either lower division strikers or young players released from the Premiership a la Masterson. It may of course depend on whether we are going with the Penrice model or Warburton's little black book.

I think it would be a better idea to wait until August before buying the striker we want rather than buying one in June just for the sake of getting a striker in.

We literally haven't played a pre-season friendly yet. Also, a striker is easily the most difficult and expensive position to find. You need a specialist that can score you goals and fit into our system and culture. With £10-£15m kicking about we might be able to do that right now, but because most of us live in REALITY, we know we have to wait for the right opportunity and/or funding.
I'd imagine that now we have the money for Freeman coming, it gives us more flexibility to get one of our targets. If you're complaining that not all business is done immediately then you're not really paying attention to anything football related, no club will conclude business before pre-season, ever.
Welcome, young Masterton. IMHO nothing to dislike about this signing. Fits in nicely with the new strategy of unearthing young gems at modest prices (in this case free). Another welcome departure from the gross excesses of the recent past.
BTW can we all agree a nickname or use his surname? The memories of Mr. Washington are still too fresh to simply use 'Conor'.

Living in REALITY? Do you really think we will get £15 million for Freeman and Luongo? If so, you probably need your bumps felt. And if in a parallel universe we did get anything remotely like, say £7 million for the pair of them, how much of that do you think would end up the war(burton) chest? And what exactly would you define as our system and culture? We've probably had a different 'system and culture' to coincide with the nine Managers since Warnock was sacked seven and a half years ago. In addition I'm not complaining that business hasn't been done immediately, quite the contrary in fact. Warburton has impressed me with his obvious desire to get players in asap (six already and they haven't been back a fortnight yet) in order that they can get used to his methodology. What I'm trying to understand is why none of the six are strikers at a time when we are three lighter than we were at the end of last season.

This looks like a very good signing on the face of it. A 16yr old who Liverpool spent £800k and who was in their first team squad in 2018, on a free, aged 20. Huge potential for resale value. And he’ll be desperate to make it. Hard to see the downside. And we now have proper cover at CB, LB and RB.
