Remain petition on 17:38 - Mar 30 by londonlisa2001 | It’s the blood cells underneath the skin expanding due to anger (or outrage) that causes the gammon effect, not the colour of the skin. Such anger is often brought on in the gammon by such subjects as ‘bloody foreigners taking our jobs’. |
Or brexiteers winning the referendum? Yes like so many racist terms all about context and implication and even from your usage very much relates to skin colour.

Remain petition on 17:06 - Mar 30 by exiledclaseboy | The term originates from Dickens. “The meaning of that term–gammon,' said Mr. Gregsbury, 'is unknown to me. If it means that I grow a little too fervid, or perhaps even hyperbolical, in extolling my native land, I admit the full justice of the remark. I am proud of this free and happy country. My form dilates, my eye glistens, my breast heaves, my heart swells, my bosom burns, when I call to mind her greatness and her glory.” Stop being a snowflake. |
I would hazard a guess it comes from the French word Jambon. And I’m sure those throwing around the term didn’t have dickens in the forefront of their mind.

Why would people start calling other people a word based on the french word for a variation on the word they’re actually using? You mad bro.

Me and my dog both point at the wife. She spent a year not being able to trump so she’s quite proud of the fact that she can again now. Probably shouldn’t be telling the forum this mind but she never reads it so.

Nope. You’re wrong. Someone isn’t born gammon. It takes a number of years of reading the Daily Mail to develop the full blown gammon. And there are plenty of non white gammons about. James Cleverly is one.

I claimed no such thing. I said “the term originates from Dickens” obviously meaning the term used in the context being discussed in this thread. The same word often has a different meaning depending on the context in which it’s being used. Newsflash - I don’t think Dickens invented words for any cuts of meat. [Post edited 30 Mar 2019 18:14]

David Lammy is also prone to gammon-esque outbursts. Although not generally Brexit related. [Post edited 30 Mar 2019 18:16]

Gammon, 2 freshly laid brown eggs, black pudding, white pudding, half red tomato fried, dollop of yellow french mustard, 2 rounds of light brown toast with lashings of green meadow butter, mug of black tea followed with large glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. I love my Gammon.

You’re wrong to say it’s a derogatory term aimed at people with pink skin. The redness refers to the dilating blood vessels beneath the skin caused by their OUTRAGE.

High blood pressure surely which isn't solely caused by OUTRAGE.

It’s not necessarily OUTRAGE though. It could be explained by high blood pressure, the heat of the studio or nervousness because they are on camera on national TV. I think a lot of us would blush in those circumstances.

Not so sure about the gammon argument. What I do know is that those mp's are a bunch of hypocrites. Complaining about knife crime and what do they go and do ? Only stab 17 million people in the back.
