Good win for youth team 09:08 - Feb 6 with 4736 views | RooleyMoorBlue | yesterday afternoon the youth defeated Accrington Stanley 3-1. I`m looking forward to seeing if these boys will be kept together long enough for them to appear in the first team as men. I doubt it will ever happen though.

One issue is will the upwards trajectory continue for each player. Some will no doubt reach their best earlier and show less improvement with time, but there should be as many who bloom later. Physicality is certainly an issue in L1 and without enough of it, it's difficult for any player to flourish consistently. Ideally, we won't have to rush any of them too much and can get the best out of them when they are ready. It's worked pretty well so far.

Good win for youth team on 10:37 - Feb 6 with 4592 views | DareToCalvin | Its one thing being good at youth team level; and once again our team is very good; but its a completely different kettle of fish stepping up to League 1, or even League 2, and the simple fact is that a maximum of 2 players from the team will be capable of even coming close to stepping up. James Hooper scored goals for fun for example in the Youth Team and was given a chance but ultimately was not good enough and is now an important player for Chorley, which is where most of these lads will probably end up if they continue playing.

Hooper hardly ever features for Chorley and if he does it’s off the bench for the closing minutes of a game. Hardly an important player.

It remains a mystery why the vast majority young players invariably fail whether at Dale or at United. I don't know the answer maybe its over supply. Every year more talented youngsters are released to make way for the next batch of talented youngsters who will also be released and on it goes. Are they discarded too early, is it because there is no path for them after 18 or 20. Is football itself failing them. Are the clubs not putting enough resources or providing enough individual coaching tailored for their individual needs. Is the team structure aspect of coaching failing them or are they simply not good enough. How long before a Central defender emerges, what kind of scholarship and just how much coaching did Craig Dawson get at academy level before bursting into our first team? and finally how did Kevin Townson fail under our care. Could Hamzat be the answer to our left back issues

I’ve oft theorised that all good youth players (as ours undoubtedly are) could well make it, but what happens around the ages of 18, 20, 21 etc. hugely influences their career. I suspect that if Yonsian, Tavares, Hoti and a few others now became first team players and played regularly in League One then they’d eventually develop into good players at this level. The trouble is no team in the land can afford to just sideline all their senior pros and introduce a first-team full of academy graduates. So invariably the vast majority get released, find a club lower down the leagues, and a hugely significant time of their footballing development takes place at a lower standard, thereby stunting their progress.

Look at Yt’s who have come though and everyone thought would be next big thing Kevin Townson - wrong manager at wrong time Reece Grey - injury cost him James Hooper - so much hype, didn’t kick on for whatever reason Could Aaron Morley be about to be added to that list Sometimes its the right place at the right time.

Good win for youth team on 12:50 - Feb 8 with 3286 views | TipperaryDale | Why don't more players make it from youth football? Because footballers have a playing career of around 15 years - it's not possible that there are spaces for players from every age group. About 1.5 a year would be the level you'd expect if clubs had similar squad sizes year on year, and retirement ages were about static. Think we do alright on this, considering some Premier League academies must be producing more pro footballers than can fit in their teams, and filter downwards (ie some academies would produce none or next to none).
