Choices like spending millions on building boulevards and redesigning the entire road system numerous times for bendy buses around the kingsway etc. They can blame the WAG and Westminster as much as they like but they’ve dropped so many bollocks over the years they have to share more than a modicum if responsibility.

And schools don't help themselves. Creating unnecessary/non-essential hierarchies inside them (numerous deputy heads/assistant heads, heads/deputy heads of year/departments etc). There is blame that can be apportioned to every area.

Well that’s just nonsense isn’t it. Name me a successful organisation that doesn’t organise itself with a hierarchical structure. Who makes decisions if no one is head of anything?

What Swanjackel is alluding to is the waste in the system much like the NHS. We all know there needs to be management but not at present levels. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Not arguing against traditional hierarchies. Head, deputy head, head of year etc. What has happened has seen schools then put in assistant heads (up to 4 in some schools on top of two deputy heads, 2 deputy heads of year, deputy heads of department etc). These are not necessary roles, and cost money to create and maintain. Also, it takes them off a timetable, making cover necessary which also has to be provided for. Completely inefficient.

Different budgets. Capital spend programmes in the bloc payment Wales gets are ringfenced by Westminster. The WG even have to pay some of it back (a lot apparently, about £600k in the last budget). Which explains why we get new traffic lights popping up where we don’t need them, boulevards, bendy bus proof roads and all that bollox. Agree though, it’s not a priority. The WG has got hammered recently for choosing to spend the extra it got from Westminster solely on the NHS, rather than spread some of it across councils for schools, etc. But then we all want a better NHS. Bottom line is there isn’t enough money to go round. The WG budget has dropped about 5% in real terms since 2010, yet demand and running costs go up. So they’re having to make choices that will piss someone off.

Couldn’t agree more. Having 2 that are coming to the end of junior school, and having spent nearly a school year in the States recently, it’s shocking the way things are going here. We undervalue teachers and kids. England are now getting hit worse than us, but that’s no comfort, and it only means they’re dropping to our level. It’s a race to the bottom. The teachers are great, but there’s only so much they can do in the face of all these cuts. Trouble is we could start identical threads for the NHS, council services, mental health care, welfare, homelessness, etc. All while the wealth gap gets bigger... sickening.

Well Brexit has nothing to do with it, yet. But yes, scrap Trident. Whilst we're at it why not scrap the WG idea to have more AM's. When times are so hard how can we afford even more politicians?

Well you say that ..... Uncertainty caused by Brexit has already caused a 2.1 percent dip in economic output, even before Britain’s departure next March, the CER said late Friday in an emailed statement. That’s cost the public finances 23 billion pounds ($30 billion) in lost tax revenue, the think tank said. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bloomberg.com/amp/news/articles/2018-06-22/u-

Not to forget the costs, both financial and non-financial, of having the entire government apparatus working to try to minimise the consequences of Cotswold Eton boy’s incompetence.
