Farron mind, I can see what he is trying to do, and I think I like what he is going for, but it's not coming off for him. He's a weird uncle of a man.

I think those YouGov polls will be heavily skewed to the left. The sort of person who spends 20 minutes filling in these YouGov surveys for the slim chance of winning one of the monthly cash prizes is likely to be fairly young and probably short on money. The sort of person who Labour appeal to.

Michael Foot's two-volume biography of Aneurin 'Nye' Bevan (1897-1960) - arguably Britain's greatest socialist, indelibly associated with the founding of the National Health Service - is one of the major political biographies of the last century. It is the life of an inspirational politician, written by one who knew and unabashedly admired him.

Corbyn to take part tonight on 23:59 - May 31 by Kerouac | I'm undecided actually. For the first time in my life I might sit this one out. Can't bring myself to vote for my lot right now, all down to the position on Brexit and Farron. We have made ourselves into a single issue party at this election...according to one of our candidates (Stephen Gilbert) I, and all Brexiters, are "f*ckwits". I'm out. Hopefully when we are out of the EU some sanity can be restored to British politics. ...and you are spot on about the Momentum strategy, I find the Labour party repulsive at the moment actually. I can't believe I ever considered voting for them (as a young man). A bunch of overgrown, spoiled brat, teenagers who don't seem to have any self awareness. I don't blame May for sitting out theses low brow debates...what could she (or the public for that matter) possibly gain from the spectacle of 6 grown adults shouting her down and making out she and the Tories are the devil incarnate. To me politics has to be more than that. I would never define myself by the strength of my opposition to somebody (something/some idea ) else. You have got to argue FOR something...and the things you are FOR need to be realistically achievable. I suppose the big cheeses in my party are arguing for something (remaining in the EU) it is just that I disagree and the fact that we have done that debate already and Brexit won. I can't in all consciousness vote for them this time. |
Theresa May has no problem with a load grown ups acting like children when's it's the PM's Questions and she's got all her cronies behind her cheering on her every faulse word.

Corbyn to take part tonight on 10:53 - Jun 1 with 1787 views | ploppy | I don't like TV debates but watched last night against my better judgement. I've got to say I was appalled. It turned into a shambles of a shouting match full of interruptions and multiple people speaking at the same time. Mishal had absolutely no control. And I'm not sure what the purpose of having an audience is other than to ask the questions. Yes, they clap, but then some element of the audience will clap no matter who said what. Are we judging the mood of the nation by how loud the applause is? Like having a clapometer on Opportunity Knocks? Likewise the jeering from some elements of the audience - what's that about? If you don't like what someone says, don't vote for them. Simple. Or maybe we should have a jeerometer as well. It's becoming a case of loudest wins. So, if we must have TV debates, here's some ideas: 1. Have a moderator who actually exerts control 2. No audience except for those assigned to ask questions - so maybe 10 in total. 3. When it's a politician's turn to speak, as assigned by the moderator, everyone else's mic is turned off. I don't watch Question Time anymore either for pretty much the same reasons.

Completely agree with this and these are the reasons that Theresa May opted to stay away. I actually wonder of it would not have been better for the Tories to not field anyone at all. By putting Amber Rudd in it merely accentuated the fact that Theresa May was not there at all. A good solid 20% of the reason I vote Conservative is that I find the sneering, jeering, childish approach by so many on the left completely off putting. As I have got older (35 now) I just tell people to grow up. Was outside a pub the other night in Pembrokeshire with a load of right on people who were eulogising about how cool their children were for being stoners. Fine I thought, each to their own. They were all chatty and lovely, appreciative of my job (mental health) and generally convivial. Until they found out I a) voted for Brexit; and b) will be voting Conservative. I literally was ignored for the rest of the night. Now I couldn't care less but its indicative of the disgraceful attitude that some on the liberal left have. I am a true liberal - each to their own, their own opinions, mine is not better than yours, it's just different. In fact I love difference. But the il-liberal liberal left are in-tolerant of anything except their own world view. Rant over!
