There is a phrase used quite often on this forum and also on the official site by our gaffer "early doors" can anyone explain this to me as it doesn't make sense. Early days is what I think is meant but when did it get corrupted, I have never heard it used anywhere except here and the Dale site.Is it in common usage in the UK or is it a Rochdale only thing.

It's not particularly new or local and I remember similar discussions about the phrase 20 odd years or so ago. I think it was Ron Atkinson who had used it - something like 'getting the ball in early doors' - and the conclusion was that he just meant 'early'

Early doors - pub/club related.

Back when pubs and clubs where busy you had to be early for the best chance of success ( best seats / view ) etc..

Being early and ready when the doors open etc.

Early Dors

Thanks everyone you have raised my knowledge ever so slightly. I have never heard this phrase before when I lived in Littleborough or after I left.

Looking forward to a great cup run, and the rest of the season. UTD.

Yeah, Glenn Murray was in it.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?
