Just finished watching season three, the battle scenes are fantastic, saving private Ryan 17th century style.
The theme music and opening titles I watch every episode as the graphics and sound track really get me. Normally in box sets I skip the intro but not this.
Would love to see Qpr walk out onto the pitch to this, really menacing.
Theme from 'The Big Country' Oscar nominated and a classic piece of music from over 50 Years ago. Also as already mentioned Ry Cooder's 'Paris Texas' the accompanying music to the opening scene is awesome and totally grabs your imagination from second one. Also as already mentioned anything from the greatest film ever 'In The Heat Of The Night'
My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

The world is crashing down on Kathryn (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Bitter Sweet Symphony (The Verve) starts up, with the strings bit sampled from the Rolling Stones - then the realisation hits her and the song itself starts up is one of my favourite uses of music in a film - fits perfectly.

Gosh, that takes me back, used to find the intro really moving and melancholic, occasionally think about it, never thought of looking it up on the internet. Top man!
In fact, it affected me so much that i decided to maroon myself on a small island, albeit on a council estate in said island. Hey ho.
Now, this is a great theme tune....

I love Midnight Cowboy. Fits the film so well.
Ditto this. Lovely soundtrack to a great film.
Ry Cooder has made some great soundtracks, Paris Texas already mentioned among them , but my personal favourite is his haunting slide guitar work on Southern Comfort.
Also love Rumble by the late great Link Wray which was used on Pulp Fiction. One of my all time favourite instrumental tracks.
There aint half been some clever bastards.

Loads of great suggestions already, but I'd go for the Miller's Crossing soundtrack by Carter Burwell.
My wife walked down the aisle to this:
And this is my favourite version of Danny Boy, which I love to sing to my son even though he's not called Danny - Frank Paterson from the same brilliant film:
Fulham FC: It's the taking part that counts

Great thread this. Here's Angelo Badalamenti describing how he wrote Laura's theme for David Lynch's Twin Peaks. Great film, great soundtrack, and a wonderful evocation by Badalamenti.
Best original soundtrack I've heard recently by far was Mica Levi's one for Under The Skin. Not a million miles from Twin Peaks with a bit of The Shining thrown in.
Mishima by Phillip Glass
Walter Wendy Carlos' Clockwork Orange ... not all original but original arrangements. First music I listened to on a sony walkman back in the early 80s. Never took the thing off my head for a month.
