Masking a shocking performance 16:59 - Aug 27 with 5238 viewsoddjob007

Anyone else think that is unfair?

Calum Camps hang your head in shame. 2 stupid cards, looking like your going to nut the ref and then telling the 4th official to F off.

Formation? Speechless.

Tactics? Did we have any? Headless chickens mostly.

Going to be a long season.

Positives?
Allens shot.
Pitch looks alright.
NML tries

Hilly had a right go at someone in the stand before the goal and then something kicked off at the final whistle - will be interesting to hear his post match interview because that was appalling for 93 mins.

Doesn't that beg the question, though? Why the lack of confidence? It's certainly not down to the fans, who are no different than we've ever been and start every match just willing the lads on.

The alternative is that it's being knocked out of them by an overcomplicated (for L1) system that they don't really buy into, at the expense of freedom of expression and their natural instincts. You might call it the Fear Approach. The classic example is Donal McDermott. The rest of the team must be sick of being harangued on the pitch by their captain, with the volume turned up when he's having least impact on the game. So that's for starters.

My concern is that yesterday's freak equaliser will indeed serve to paper over the cracks, with Hill's reaction leaving him feeling even less inclined to think through what's happening with his players. His apology was perfectly acceptable - no problems there, and i for one didn't knock him for his human reaction in the first place, but I do fear it'll hinder him from taking proper account of why confidence is so low.

Edit: just read DaleiLama's post on t' other thread - yep, that's what needs to happen, just hope yesterday doesn't create a bunker mentality within the club.

Think you're right on the over-complicated issue. It's not something that always works but it's been proven that going back to basics has been beneficial in the past - get back to 4-4-2 with everyone playing the most simplistic of roles.

Get Henderson and NML wide, Lund and Allen central, Andrew or Davies(still not sure on this signing, time will tell) up front with a poacher alongside them. If we could bring someone in that would be best, if not put Henderson up there as a proper striker but the important thing is getting the ball out to the wings and balls into the box. See the early part of 2007.

That poacher and a left back would be the priorities ahead of deadline day.

Poll: Greatest Ever Dale Game

Has the overcomplicated system changed much over the past two seasons? Two of the most successful season in the club's history? We've got 2 points out of 15 so far, and whilst I haven't been present the results have been marginal. For the last two seasons, as good as they have been for us, we have had these poor runs. Difference this time is we aren't in sight of promotion or a play off. This is perhaps where the lack of confidence or 'fear' as you rightly put it comes from.
