The Official Burnley FC Versus Swansea City Premier League Match Thread on 17:05 - Aug 13 by londonlisa2001 | Great three points to start us off - never easy against a promoted team in the first few weeks as the others showed. Llorente showed some real glimpses - quicker than I thought he'd be, and a good touch as well. Siggy needed gels brought on after 20 minutes, so not yet fit by some distance. Barrow some signs in the first half, Montero in the second. Good game I thought by both full backs - Naughton was very good. Fernandez as well, other than that unbelievable miss. All in all, nice way to ease in, with plenty more to come now our Euros players etc are returning and new players bedding in. A win at home next week and we're off to a flyer again. |
Bit to much panicking at times for my liking, Routts had a mare but other than that i'm one happy JB

The Official Burnley FC Versus Swansea City Premier League Match Thread on 17:18 - Aug 13 by londonlisa2001 | I'd have been happy with a draw beforehand - these games are difficult. And particularly with our relatively disrupted and late pre season. I did think that the game highlighted that we should get in another centre back though. Not necessarily because I'd drop one of today's two, but it may take a while before we really see a settled first choice back four in the way we've had it for the past few seasons. And today's two, if nothing else, will miss some games through suspension from yellow cards if today's anything to go by. |
Couldn't agree more away to a newly promoted side first game of the season a point would have been great, three is superb.

Routs was good in some of the Pre-season stuff, but wasted the ball and chances today.

Seriously - you are really getting boring. It's the first game. Away from home against a newly promoted side which is never easy. The pre season was disrupted and delayed by the Euros and takeover. Our biggest outs and ins have happened within 9 days of the season starting. And we won. And you are desperately trying to find things to moan about, whether it's our fitness in this thread, or Fer in another one. Not one of our players is any good according to you - apart from when they leave us, at which point they've become better than a kid who's just been transferred for £50m. When you say you're employed to give football critiques, I can only assume you mean by Cardiff. [Post edited 13 Aug 2016 17:56]

It's a massive 3 points, Daz we have week to look at the game and put right certain aspects of the game. We need to strengthen our defence and Amat was a liability with his "hands, legs and body" contact style, yellow already is a worry. FF was solid enough and SK a k in progress, NT will bring stability but we do need get strength in depth. [Post edited 13 Aug 2016 18:35]

You have said on a number of occasions that you get paid for your opinions though. Which is fine. Good luck to you if you do. But NO team in this league is fit at the moment. That's why picking up points in the first few weeks is worth its weight in gold, as strange results happen until the teams get up to speed. In particular, the newly promoted teams tend to have good starts, particularly after a Euros or World Cup as they are less disrupted in preparation because their players are not away, or very few of them are. It was Burnley's first game. too. They clearly had more in the tank in the second half, which has been a familiar pattern over the past few seasons now. Make up whatever narrative you like about me, I post as much positive stuff as anyone else around here.

agree - and we need a commanding, intelligent physical presence at CB far too many long balls weren't dealt with cleanly / 2nd ball not snapped up an italian libero would be ideal - c'mon FG.....

Their players had a more settled pre season. Vokes was away but can't think of many others if any. We had Siggy who could barely move. Llorente who is obviously not match fit. Montero who's only just come back. So the other midfielders were having to work to cover one player that may as well have not been on the pitch, and a forward that was less sharp than he will be. And it really doesn't matter how much Burnley had in the tank, because one thing they haven't got is 3 points. In case it escaped your notice - we scored in the 82nd minute, which isn't a sign of a team that is struggling as much for fitness as you are making out.

The Official Burnley FC Versus Swansea City Premier League Match Thread on 16:58 - Aug 13 by swanjackal | Not as well, but I would have him and Montero the first choice options if we are going with Llorente and not making a winger signing. Barrow offers something more direct which we need also, coupled with their pace. Neither should be behind Routledge in the pecking order. |
Totally agreed | |

Strangely enough, early on in the game I thought to myself how slow and lethargic we were. Then I realised the thread I was watching at that time was running ever so slightly in slow motion. Maybe you were watching that stream?!
