Sigurdsson signs new 4 year deal on 13:16 - Aug 2 by jasper_T
Gylfi and Ayew didn't play well for us at the same times last season. Ayew was on fire when we were playing really awful football under Monk, and Gylfi was taking a lot of stick on here.
Gylfi came good after Guidolin arrived (and Shelvey fcked off), and between then and the last few games Ayew didn't contribute a huge amount.
Finding someone who can play with Gylfi will make all the difference.
Guidolin is clearly better than Monk at getting players doing their best work playing in their best positions and i think the improvement in our wingers since he's been here is showing that. Gylfi's best position is obvious to most but Monk didn't use him correctly, Guidolin did. Ayew on the other hand, I don't know if anyone genuinely knows his best position including Ayew himself. He's not a winger, he doesn't fit into a disciplined midfield and he's not an out and out striker although we have got the best out of him there because he was better at it than our supposed specialist strikers.
I think Gylfi is far more important to our team than Ayew or indeed any other player come to that. This new deal is fantastic news.

I'm pretty sure that the only person who doesn't see Ayew as an out-and-out striker is Ayew himself. Not sure why this would be as he can clearly do an excellent job there.

You would hope that the club has told him what is in the pipeline, I honestly don't think he would have stayed if he thought we were going to be selling our better players without strengthening.
I would assume he has been promised the captaincy aswell.

Good news. In fact, great news. Not only because if him, but because of what it signals.
Easily the most sought after player we have, so it shows we are prepared to pay when we want to, prepared to turn down big fees when we want to (would have got more for him than any other player) and must have indicated our transfer intent to him as well.

Indeed. Can't wait for the start now.
Could be one hell of a season. Two of the world's biggest managers in charge of the Mancy clubs. New(ish) managers at the Pool clubs who could make an impact. Plus Spurs Leicester and West Ham and that loveable looney Conte at Chelsea. And little old Swansea all in the midddle of it.
Contracts mean virtually zero in ter,s of retaining a player these days. If a club sticks a bid in and the player wants to go, very little the club can do
Hopefully he learned from his time at Spurs and that we now build a team around him
"Michu, Britton and Williams could have won 3-0 on their own. They wouldn't have required a keeper."

And if you want to be cynical means that the improved contract means more for him in this or the next window!

Excellent news.
Gylfi is by far our best and most influential player, and keeping him would have been the No1 goal, certainly over Ayew.
