Rodgers or Bielsa on 18:22 - Apr 24 by LeonisGod | Had the season finished against Chelsea*, when we hit our target for survival, I'd have said Guidolin deserved to be kept on and I'd have looked forward to see if he could have replicated his amazing record in Italy. But given the drop in intensity and quality these last couple of games may see Huw hammering the last few nails in his coffin. Today was just bizarre. Very Monkesque in it's cluelessness. The players are on the beach / saving themselves for the Euros. And it's probably no coincidence we've been crap since Ayew came back either. Again he was standing on the toes of his own player. Ok, it was Paloschi for a change rather than Siggy or Gomis, but he's clearly not a team player and doesn't suit us. *note to anyone reading from the club - the season hasn't quite finished yet. |
Bielsa please👠The team have been on their holibobs since the Chelsea win. Just end the season now......Liverpool and Man City will also punish this side......our GD is starting to look poor!

Rodgers or Bielsa on 18:18 - Apr 24 by Private_Partz | No matter who is in charge you cannot coach out lack of effort. None of these are his players. Some have called for going for the jugular to day with Mo and Jeff there from the off. Had we done that it would have been even more hideous. The players are on their holidays and our midfield is not good enough. Check out Stoke at Man City. Even we have done this In the past when safety has been reached. Whether Frankie or someone else Is in charge there are big decisions to be made. The manager needs to have experience and loads of contacts which I suggest Frankie has. If not him then we have to shell out and get a Beilsa type in. Rodgers, and most certainly Martinez, would not be the solution and I can see even more heartache if either of them got the gig. Thank god for common sense posts. People seem to be judging Guidollin on the last two games, which have admittedly been awful. Coming in to a club in free fall halfway through the season and getting them safe with six games to go doesn't seem to count for much. I think he will be gone in the summer, the players haven't seemed to be at the races the last two games, it doesn't look like they are playing to impress their manager. I think he deserves a crack though, certainly ahead of Brendan.

There are only 20 Premier League clubs - you'd turn down the chance to manage one of them? There'll be no shortage of candidates for the Swans vacancy.

Rodgers or Bielsa on 19:03 - Apr 24 by AngelRangelQS | No hyperbole. We openly admitted that managers didn't want to come here in January. I can see us being more attractive this summer but not a great deal so. Genuine question - what do you think we need to do in the summer? It's far more than a couple of tweaks here and there and without a massive budget, it'll certainly make managers think twice. The only thing that may go in our favour is that there's unlikely to be a managerial merry go round meaning that there won't be too many clubs competing for managers this summer |
We were right in the thick of a relegation battle in January, we didn't have a measly (compared to rivals like Newcastle) transfer fund and any new manager would have had no time to implement his style. Though the most important factor in us failing to appoint a big name this January was money and not the situation. We weren't offering more than a 6 month deal that was likely to be prudent given our board's history. Now we're safe and there's a whole summer of potential preparation and acquisition of players for a new manager. It's a completely different situation. There's a managerial merry-go-round every season although I hope our search would look beyond the most available candidates.

Rodgers or Bielsa on 19:09 - Apr 24 by icecoldjack | Do you think the club is stable? From where 1000's of others are looking it looks a fookin' shambles right now. on the field and off the field. |
It's absolutely stable to the point where any new manager wouldn't have any interference from the board regarding on-pitch matters. The allocation of shares isn't a concern for a manager. It's ridiculous to label us a shambles. Also there's a fair chance that there are only two managerial vacancies in the PL next season. Us and Everton, barring something shocking. There's no way that Sunderland or Norwich sack their respective managers should they stay up. Pardew has a cup final to buy him another year despite Palace's poor form. We'll be in a great position to get a new manager.

Good post. I think Flores at Watford might go too, but you're right that we're in a good position. In many way, I think last summer the transfer task was less clear. We'd had a great season and perhaps were looking to build the squad rather than simply improving the first team. Gomis was also in good form at the end of 14/15 season and that meant we foolishly went for cover for him instead of a replacement. It's obvious where our deficiencies are and that we have to recruit well, or I fear we'll go down next year. I just hope the manager situation is sorted quickly.

Rodgers or Bielsa on 15:33 - Apr 25 with 2023 views | sully49 | I honestly belive the team are in the wer'e safe from relegation so why kill ourselves and players going to the euros wouldn't risk anything to stop that. The positive side of me said 2 scrappy goals against the probable championship winners, in a game we weren't supposed win anyway, so what's the problem? My realistic says what we watched yesterday was our worst performance in the PL to date, with big games on the horizon, bets now should be how many goals are going to loose by. We already know what players should be off loaded in the summer, but there are so many on the list, that we can guaranty that not all will go. For the record its Brenda that gets my vote, with AC his assistant. Dont loose the faith, its Swansea till I die, weve seen worst, onwards and upwards.

You would have thought that to be so, but try telling Mourhino that. But it is more like what Private P said "No matter who is in charge you cannot coach out lack of effort." or a player rebellion like under both Monk and Mourhino. [Post edited 25 Apr 2016 16:23]

I think the biggest difference there (at least from what I understand of Bielsa) is that much like how we played under Martinez through to Laudrup, the high pressing system he employs doesn't necessarily require star players, just players who are tactically aware, disciplined and extremely hard working. One of the advantages of that is that as long as you are prepared to work with the players, they are reasonably easy to replace. If one or two get a bit uppity, he can easily drop them. Mourinhos game plan is normally based on signing the cream of the crop on high transfer fees and wages and then man managing them into a disciplined unit. It brings him very quick success, but if and when he does alienate big names it can go downhill swiftly as it did at Real and Chelsea and I think Inter?

Originally I wanted Guido to stay on and was against Brendan coming back, given his reluctance to put his neck on the line. On reflection though, after this season under GM's initial tenure I think we need to have a fresh start possibly under Brendan. You can never have a sure thing in the Prem, however given Brendan's experience now of the Premier league I just can't see us struggling like we have been this season under him. Whereas with Guido I get the feeling that should he be kept on the pressure will be a lot more intense on him from the start, 'Dead man walking' scenario. I think the club needs a boost. On reflection of the season, a change was needed, belatedly it happened , Guido came in and were safe with quite a few games left. Whatever anyone says, the bottom line is that he got us over the line, how much was down to Curt is also open to debate. In sport though, for me points/results speak for themselves. End of. The players yesterday were a disgrace to Swansea City Football Club and to a proud manager, a very unpleasant end to the season looms.

Nothing much to disagree with there. Although a fresh start / change could easily be someone who saved us (along with Curt) who possibly may just have loads of contacts in the game who could benefit the team. If not then another continental manger like Beilsa. Rodgers is not a fresh start and he now carries much more baggage than when we rescued him from oblivion.

Dubbed "El Loco," Bielsa's radically aggressive tactics took a side that had missed consecutive World Cups into the knockout stage of the 2010 tournament. No less notable was Bielsa's leftist politics and his frigid public interactions with then Chilean President Sebastian Pinera, who carried the endorsement of Chile's center-right Coalition for Change. After the team's underdog run in 2010, Bielsa joined the side for a reception hosted by Pinera and echoed Caszerly's decades-old protest by refusing Pinera's hand. Rodgers or Bielsa on 19:01 - Apr 24 by ymaohyd | Absolutely. I'm utterly amazed on another thread that many fancied us today. I understood the logic i.e. Leicester very nervous, there to be got at. I gave my opinion that every other team (bar Villa) yes, but us? Not a cat in hells chance..and so it proved. But lets have a degree of realism. A manager who must know that his short contract wont be extended, a squad of players who know they are safe and know the manager will shortly be gone and a team in Leicester who are set up to be our nemesis.....the result no surprise. It's all getting unpleasant and I feel sorry for Guidolin and the people that he has brought with him. I'd give the nod of the head that Guidolin might have given the club structure and taken the pressure off Curt. For me though Curt has the most credit, along with Gylfi than anyone for keeping us up. A big nod also to Dave Adams. But as you say the hyperbole is a load of nonsense. We are facing a massive summer, however the most important factor is sorting out the issues off the field. So for me: A statement asap, thanking Guido but stating that he won't be staying. Let's get the buyout sorted. A clear statement from the new owners on their vision for the club. A new manager appointed. And all the above before the end of May. Lets then attack the summer transfer market with real intent. |
Even at 2-0 down we could have got back into the game but the players simply couldn't be bothered. Like Icy said they knifed Guidolin in the back in front of the entire watching world. Leicester with Vardy were winning games 1-0. Without him they scorred 4 against us. That isn't anything to do with our players abilities, it's to do with their heart. Most roadsweepers on the minimum f*cking wage are a damn sight more concientious.
