They're rolling the dice. We can't stay as we are.
DeGuzman will fit in just fine I reckon. As would Sinclair... Better options than Grimes, Fulton etc
DeGuzman will fit in just fine I reckon ?
He don't tackle, he can't nut a ball ,he don't track back and plays when he feels like, plus he's not played for a year ,he's injured and won't be ready for at least a month
in the championship maybe

So everyone around us is signing players to make immediate impacts and try and get themselves away from the relegation zone and we are going with a player who us unfit, hasn't played all season and won't be available until mid February which by then the damage could be ireversable.
Agree. We've seen some odd decisions this year but hiring an old boy who's unfit to get us out of relegation scrap is bizarre. Maybe the boys from Naples are still pissed off with Huw about the Michu loan, so made him an offer he can't refuse!

There's a grain of truth in what you say, but on the other hand, he's a quality player who represented the Netherlands in the last world cup. He could be fit to play by mid Feb, and he won't have any trouble settling in, since we know him and vice versa. If he comes with no fee and just wages, I'd say a worthwhile addition to the squad, specially when you think of the lack of quality back up we have in midfield (aka Grimes).
We want new players to be fit for next Monday not mid February,De Guzman has has hardly kicked a ball in anger since last April no wonder he is available.

Is there anything stopping us getting those players AND De Guzman?

You reckon he's got the stomach for a dog fight ? naaaaa, we need dog fighters now who will be 100% committed to the cause we ain't gonna ponce our way out of this one , guts and blood will have to be split

I admire your fighting spirit, but as someone else said on another thread, we're not going to get out of this by kicking lumps out of the opposition, we'll get out of it by playing good football.

You need a blend of dogs and creative players. If we try to fill the team with scrappers, we will be hard to break down but won't score many goals. We are pretty much in that situation now, it won't get better without adding quality.
If DeGuzman is injured and hasn't played since April, he may not be the answer. We could use a player like him though. Striker still the main priority by some distance, followed by a winger who can either score or create chances.

no need to kick lumps out of them ,but putting your feet and head in where it might hurt certainly helps the cause .He certainly don't fit in there ,Naismith does

We got creative players but hardly no dogs in fact only one and a bit i'd say. Ash and the ankle biter Leon

Well we won't be playing any new players Monday, don't they have to be registered by midday the day before the game... bet our admin team don't do weekends

Fair point. Don't underestimate the amount of 'dog' work Gylfi and Ayew get through though, or Rangel and Taylor. I know what you mean though, none are physically imposing. I think DeJong is the type of player you are looking at? I think him, Naismith or DeGuzman would all improve the side. We are going to have to prioritise though

Everything takes time with us, whether it's us dragging our feet or other reasons lve no idea. Bournemouth have freshened their squad by signing 3 players and Howe is looking for 2 more, could be argued that he's taken a punt on them, but it hasn't worked out to bad from them yet. Apart from an injured JDG there doesn't seem to be anyone else close to us signing and we're halfway through the transfer window, hopefully things are closer than we think.
Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.
247. I was getting myself together again and saw this depressing de Guzman news. UTTERLY overated nomark ,journeyman who wont help our cause. WE TRULY ARE ,seemingly, throwing it all away. Simply amazes me just what the fook is going on in Jenkin s head.
If its just a cheap option , then it will bite him and us back.

This, but one big weak link at the moment is Ki, he is not the same player who was voted player of the year, or who plays for his national side. I am not sure what has happened but he appears to be on cruise control at the moment. He certainly is not functioning in the Defensive Mid role. Perhaps he wants out as well. Both Cork & Naughton (as bad as he was) are still fighting for the cause and so is young Barrow, who is getting better the more he plays.

I do like Barrow

Jobbie loved him though , so he must be good
I'd have to disagree there mate. I would prefer Naismith for his versatility and combatitiveness, but honestly do think DeGuzman would improve our squad. Bar the odd free kick, he isn't going to do anything spectacular and he certainly isn't going to go head first into a 50/50 with Cattermole but he certainly has his strengths.
He is the player who holds everything together, always in a position to give his teammates an option (like Leon), but can carry the ball from defence to attack, playing the triangles and making everyone else look a better player by creating time and space for them. He also speeds up and slows down play very well.
I don't see us signing both and a striker and my preference at the moment would be Naismith. I'd be more than happy with DeGuzman here next season though.

Good post, l think Naismith would be the better option for us as well, l know what you're saying about JDG, but he can go wandering around with the fairies on times, when his head is on it he's fine.
