Match Report 23:11 - Jul 28 with 6068 views | TalkingSutty | Trying to be positive about tonight's game isn't easy. It followed the pattern of the Chester and Macclesfield friendly's really, a lot of running around but no real end product. It was a misleading scoreline because Accrington should have bagged 3 or 4 and at no stage did we really put the Accrington defence under pressure. We tended to treat the ball like a hot potato and inevitably gave the ball away in the final third. I really like Andy Cannon but the number of times he ran down a blind alley, overplayed and then lost the ball was something that needs to be highlighted. Bunney ran his heart out but doesn't look to be capable of taking the next step, he was pushed around tonight by robust defenders and came off second best, it's becoming a bad habit and I think Hillys patience is wearing thin. Vincentii and Henderson never really got into the game. Lillis would have walked in the first half for handling outside the area when the forward was clean through, he didn't have any other option really after a poor header from Allen left him high and dry. On the positive side Big Jim looked more composed,i thought he was our best player. Tannser did ok and Lancashire looked a bit more switched on. Eastham got some more minutes under his belt, that will have done him good. I think some players succeeded in playing themselves out of Hillys plans tonight, he wants to see progression and good decision making and one or two didn't display that. I know it's only a friendly but I think Hilly will come away with more negatives than positives from tonight's exercise, the complete opposite of Saturday's display. Accringtons pitch was poor and Coleman still has a face only a mother could love. I didn't really enjoy tonight.

Match Report on 02:23 - Jul 29 with 3907 views | DaleyBrent | I thought McNulty was absolutely awful. Thought he was good against Blackburn, but tonight he looked incredibly slow, ungamely on the ball and physically not quite up to it. I love Joe Bunney's endeavour and work rate but i think this pre-season is my final straw - he really just isn't good enough. Nobody would of got a 6/10 tonight, was a really really poor spectacle, but another good 90 minutes for the majority of the players and i'm sure the game will have been physically exactly what KH & CB will have wanted.
Match Report on 06:47 - Jul 29 with 3804 views | 1907 | The formation didn't work from the off and should have been changed early in the first half. I know the game is technically a training exercise but I fail to see how any of the players benefitted from that last night. The three centre backs and Lillis had hold of the ball far too much and were so wasteful with the ball it was untrue. Mcnulty is slow, makes poor decisions and looks like a throwback to the Daryl Burgess era, a major concern. We were out muscled and out hassled for 90 minutes by an Accrington side that were more than up for it. The only positive for me was McDermott who has improved with each game. Bunney... I just do not know how the lad has his name on the back of a shirt it's becoming embarrassing and I actually feel sorry for him at times.

Agree regarding McDermott, he looked like he was trying to impress. It became a bit of a standing joke how many aimless balls we played once in the final third, when in a great position to play in a early cross players invariably checked back and lost the ball. Bad decision making and sloppy passing was the main problem. It was men against boys really and Accrington looked far hungrier. In fact, Coleman looks to have compiled a decent team and it wouldn't surprise me if they pushed for a Play Off place next season. Results of Friendlies mean nothing though and maybe last nights performance will prove more valuable to Hilly than our recent good performances against Championship teams. Same at a lot of grounds, fire certificate is the norm for a flag and no bottle tops to make sure ists not a missile, batteries and golf balls are the future

Agree with most of the above comments in this thread. I particularly like the look of McDermott so far. I also liked the look of Windass, and Accy could do well next season.
Match Report on 08:19 - Jul 29 with 3569 views | topoff | Windass was a class act and was head and shoulders above everyone else, Lancashire couldnt seem to find any of his own players with a pass and Bunney was outmuscled everytime he got the ball. Thought the pitch was in good nick considering all the rain. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Match Report on 09:09 - Jul 29 with 3463 views | 442Dale | I didn't go so can't comment on individual performances last night but if you're playing with three central defenders and wing-backs, then you've got to have a proper footballer as one of the three. We looked comfortable on Saturday with Kisimba and BBM there as everyone was composed when giving them the ball. Accrington do indeed have the makings of a decent squad. Coleman may have returned to old favourites like Gornell and Kee, but players like those two will always do a job for him. Worth a fiver on finishing in the top 7.

Match Report on 09:12 - Jul 29 with 3458 views | AtThePeake | Not a fan of the wing-backs formation and I think the two wing-backs last night were the problem. Both too deep to make an impact high up the pitch and when they did receive the ball, there wasn't enough movement going forward from the likes of Vincenti and Bunney. Liked the look of McDermott also. Feel like as he gets fitter and sharper he'll be a good player for us. McNulty looks very awkward on the ball.

And when Hendo goes we will be well out of ideas and guile. Something needs sorting but I'm afraid when we sign s"ite like McNulty , RNL , Alessandra, McDermot we are stuck with them!

What? How many games have you attended this pre-season? What evidence do you have, other than malicious hearsay, that McNulty, Alessandra and McDermott are crap? As far as the latter two go, I've only heard positive things.

You're either a right miserable glass half empty type of person or on the wind up. Last nights game was poor partly down to the formation in the first half which enabled tanser and cannon to be caught out of position too many times. As for the new signings they seem positive to me add a couple more and it's a strong squad. Weak links for me in the squad are lillis, Lancashire, bunney and of those only Lillis is a concern can't see the other two starting too often

While McNulty is no Jack O'Connell, I think it's extremely harsh to say he was 'absolutely awful' last night. I commented to TS that I liked how he tried to play the ball out of defence and looked for team-mates rather than the first time clearances we've seen from the likes of McArdle in the past and Lancashire more recently. This was the first time I've seen him in a Dale shirt and I wasn't as worried about him as I expected, based on previous reports. [Post edited 29 Jul 2015 12:03]

People I know who were at the game suggest the opposite. That Accrington actually looked a decent, solid and organised side.

Well that's their opinion if you have to make 10-12 subs in a pre-season this close to the season it suggests the season isn't looking very well for that team

The goal wasn't from a deflection and friendlies are designed so teams can make 10-12 subs if they want, like we did at Fylde, for example. Hardly noticed the ref.

So you managed to afford to go last night!
Match Report on 12:59 - Jul 29 with 2883 views | YouTubeDale | They counter attacked us at speed. Tanser struggled to keep up with his man. I think the ball bounced off Lillis after the shot, but it certainly fell nicely to an Accy player who rifled it in the back of our net from the edge of the box. McDermott did take a nice free-kick that nearly beat their giant goalkeeper. And I agree he did impress generally with is speed and agility. I thought the pitch was a big leveller last night. The grass was very long to what we are used to and stopped our silky moves which characterised our play last Saturday. It was like watching the F*ckarewe pygmy tribe in Africa play football. They are the small people who live in tall grass. They jump up and down and shout "Where the F are we?" and that's how they get their name.
