Stan Bowles. Sad news on 17:51 - Jun 21 with 1777 views | DWQPR | Back in the day when the training ground was at Birkbeck College in Greenford during the school holidays myself and a few mates used to wait outside to watch the players arrive. Stan was always last, same taxi very time. Would give us a quid to get his Sporting Life and allowed us to keep the change for sweets, every day. Always had a chat with us and on a couple of occasions made sure we could get in and watch the players train. Lovely, lovely bloke and my absolute hero from my youth. Remember one night when he was playing against us for Orient, the home end was the School End as the Loft had lost its roof and for 60 minutes we sung 'Bring back, bring back, bring back out Stanley to us, to us', then he got Glenn Roeder sent off and that changed to 'Stanley is a wà nker'. Didn't mean it Stan! The greatest player ever to wear the hoops. Just feel lucky that I started watching the R's the season he was bought. And if anyone that is too young to remember or see Stan play, trust us when we say he WAS that good.

Stan Bowles. Sad news on 20:45 - Jun 21 with 1646 views | richranger | Just posted on facebook - sounds like a great idea! Let's make 23 August 2015 a special day for Stan Bowles and the rest of that classic Rangers squad. 22 August 1975 was a special day in the club's history - a day when reigning Division One Champions Derby County were beaten 1-5 at the Baseball Ground, Derby by a Rangers side that were only in their 4th ever season in the top flight. Stan Bowles scored a hat trick that day and Rangers went on to finish one point behind Liverpool that season - their best ever league finish. Let's make the home game v Rotherham United on 22 August 2015 a special day for Stan Bowles and the rest of that classic Rangers squad https://www.facebook.com/events/366444413564175/ [Post edited 21 Jun 2015 20:46]

I remember that Orient game, we were in the School End as the Loft was being rebuilt. The chant I remember was "We've seen it all before". Shame as I'd only ever seen him play for us once!

Stan Bowles. Sad news on 23:12 - Jun 21 with 1541 views | daveB | I think the ideas to praise Stan and show our appreciation is all great but I think the club would be better off trying to help the family and the charity. Maybe a testimonial game, that home game before the season starts charge a tenner and give it all to his family, fill the place out and do a legends game before the first team play. Do a sponsored walk to his old club Brentford and raise money for the charity although that might tread on the toes of the Tiger Cubs walk. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Stan Bowles. Sad news on 09:07 - Jun 22 with 1455 views | runningman75 | I have been thinking about this all weekend. Wondering if the club will think about some charity work towards the Alzheimer's society. I know there are a lot of charities out there but Stan Bowles was a true great in a QPR shirt.

I read a piece in the Mirror (I think) a few years back, when Dave Webb was managing Brentford. At the time he was using Stan to (I think) coach some of the youngsters. He told a story about Stan from his days at QPR that summed Stan up and, I must admit, brought a tear to my eye. Anyway here's the story that I read..... Dave Webb was travelling back from training in his car with his daughter when he saw Stan walking, and offered him a lift to the nearest tube station as Stan was catching a train. When they got to the tube station Stan gave Dave Webb’s daughter 50 pence. Dave thought no more about this, but when he got into training the next day he mentioned this story to Don Shanks (Stan’s good mate at QPR), and Don said that Stan had only 50 pence on him and had ended up walking the several stops to his destination. That summed Stan up for me. Great guy, who would literally give you his last penny. Tim
Stan Bowles. Sad news on 14:19 - Jun 22 with 1338 views | loftus77 | Yes. In the Queens Park Rangers Pantheon there is Gerry, Adel, Sir Les, Tricky Trev, Allen & Goddard, Rodney, Macca... But always at the very top, above all others, is Stan. All the very best to him and his family - a testimonial is a great idea.
