Strength in Depth Will Please Monk Most Written by BarneyLW on Wednesday, 26th Aug 2015 20:28
A 3-0 win at home to York City will hardly send shock waves around the football world. Yet, you can only beat what is in front of you, and with the next round of the Capital One Cup looming, a draw away to recently relegated Hull was the reward for a comfortable win against Russ Wilcox' men.
What will please everyone connected with the club, not least the manager, will be the strength in depth of the squad. Admittedly Monk could afford to weaken the team, but it is rare the club have been able to make 11 changes and still have a side that could easily get domestic results as well as wins against lower league opposition. A couple of debuts were handed out, Kristoffer Nordfelt started in goal, a very capable keeper if pre-season is anything to go by. Fans have been equally excited to see the flying French full back Franck Tabanou, who excelled on his first competitive start. Along the rest of the back four, Jordi Amat and Kyle Bartley set up as two central defenders, Amat seems to look a permanently solid defender, Bartley likewise a luxury of a player, probably the fourth choice centre back, who also seems to be able to come into any game and look solid. I personally have rarely seen him not have a decent game. Right back spot was taken up by Angel Rangel, so often a reliable man and if most fans are honest, can do a job if his recent Kyle Naughton was unavailable. The same can be said of the midfield. So much was made in the summer about a departure for Leon Britton, but the long time servant to the club was temporarily handed the armband for the game, and hailed the professional performance of the team, he partnered Ki in the middle, who himself is often a first team regular. Wayne Routledge and Nathan Dyer have seen more than their fair share of first team football, yet this has been cut short with the form of Jefferson Montero and new signing Andre Ayew. Dyer in particular has had his performances questioned, but he silenced the critics two minutes in with his first goal of the season. The number 10 role was filled by Matty Grimes, a definite one for the future and one that Monk has put a lot of faith in. He played in a more advanced role over pre-season, he got on the score sheet with a second half free kick, which admittedly took a fortunate deflection. Striker Eder will be disappointed to not get on the score sheet. In a similar situation to Gomis last season, as second choice striker, taking your chances when they are handed to you are vital at this level. But you sense there is more to come from the Portuguese striker. Another striker who is finding first team football hard is Marvin Emnes. The sub scored the third last night to compliment the goals he scored in all of Swansea's Capital One Cup games last season. It is an encouraging time for the club. So seldom have we seen good league form be matched by not just a good cup performance, but the fact Garry Monk can change his starting line up completely and yet the squad not look inferior. Perhaps with such squad depth, a good cup run could be on the cards this year.

You know, I do not have any knowledge about football. This is the reason, I am not getting it completely. Although I am understanding what you want to say, some phrases are out of my context. However, I wish to understand them, but right now I can not spend more time on them because I have to find mba assignment writer to complete my assignment. | | 0 |
