A Hard Decision Written by HoustonJack on Tuesday, 10th May 2016 12:18 Swansea’s current owners have a huge decision to be made in the next week, who manages/coaches the Swans for the 2016/17 season. Certainly Francisco Guidolin has enhanced his chances of achieving that with the latest win at West Ham, only the second time in history, and that’s not the only time he has re-written history. Let’s not forget his first away game at Everton, plus memorable wins against Arsenal (despite spending that time in a London hospital), and against Liverpool. Yes, there have been ups and downs, namely the losses at Newcastle and at Leicester, yet we should not let those overshadow his successes. As has been mentioned in the press by Jenkins, a decision is to be made regarding Guidolin’s future after next Sunday’s game against Manchester City. I suspect that the ‘hand’ Guidolin was given at the beginning was ‘loaded’, and not in his favour, which is a shame really considering what he has achieved. A win next Sunday can put us in the top-half of the table, who would have thought that last December, an un-questionable achievement, even now without that possible win to come. I have always felt that the ‘jury was still out’ as far as Guidolin’s ability to lead us upwards, but no one can ignore what he has done for us. For me the last word has been with the players who undoubtedly like him and want to play for him as was evident at West Ham. Much has been said about Brendan Rodgers being the next Swansea manager, but is he the right choice? He has a fondness for possession football, which didn’t really work during his time in Anfield. Possession football only works if you move the ball quickly, but the same can be said for other styles. Leicester is a fine example being one of the teams in the EPL with the lowest possession percentage, without playing possession football. Look at our game against them, we had 61% possession, and we all know what the result was. Yet at West Ham we had 38% possession; too quote the saying from Saint and Greavsie, “It’s a funny old gameâ€. Certainly come next week if Guidolin is told “thank you, but no thanksâ€, as I suspect what will happen, it will certainly raise a few eyebrows in the football community, lets the board’s decision does not smack them in the face next season, but there again they won’t be there to see ‘egg on their faces’. As for the new potential owners, surely they will have a say as to who is in the hot seat. I just hope and pray that the decision made next week, or perhaps already made, is the right one for Swansea City, and the right one for Francisco Guidolin.
