Urgh, Elland Road, joy of joys. Pesky relegation. If you fancy this one you’re mad, but if you’re going anyway then here are the usual hints and tips.
Ground Name: Elland Road
Capacity: 40,204
Address: Elland Road, Leeds, LS11 0ES
Main Telephone No: 0871 334 1919
Ticket Office No: 0871 334 1992
Straight up the M1 for this one. It’s pretty easy, if a bit of a trek. Simply join the M621 from the M1 at junction 43 and look out for the ground appearing on your left. Once you do take the next exit from the motorway and turn left onto the A6110 ring road then take the next left onto Elland Road. It’s about 193 miles, and three and a half hours at the speed limit, from Loftus Road.
The ground is surrounded by large car parks, official and unofficial, all of which clear surprisingly quickly after the game.
Primarily this is an East Coast journey from Kings Cross to Leeds, although there is a possibility of going up the Midland Mainline from St Pancras.
The cheapest tickets at this late stage are £22.15 on the 07.03 arriving 0924, or £29.90 on the 08.03 that arrives at 10.24. Going back there are £22.15 tickets on the 16.05 that arrives at 18.25.
The ground is not walking distance from the station and will require a taxi, in plentiful supply outside the station, or a shuttle bus which again runs from the railway station regularly for £2.50 — come out of the station, cross the road, go down the steps to the main road and the bus leaves from the opposite side on your right. After the match it’s a bit of a free for all as far as taxis are concerned, with informal queuing operations scattered around and everybody in it for themselves. Many end up taking the long walk back to town.
The official coach leaves Loftus Road at 6.30am and the Target Roundabout at 7am. This is priced £32 for adults, £21 for seniors and under 21s, and £19 for under 16s with the usual discount for season ticket holders. The LSA coach leaves the Springbok at 7am priced £30 adults and £20 concessions. Call Gary on 07506 028 189 to book.
Most QPR fans end up drinking in and around the city centre, especially those that arrive by train, and there are literally hundreds of options with the Brewery Tap popular in previous seasons. Expect a high profile police presence around the station and the neighbouring pubs. Near the ground the Peacock is to be avoided, the Drysalters will be a mix of home and away fans with Sky and vile food, it will be extremely packed from very early in the day.
For a 12.15 kick off that you can watch at home on Sky Leeds have decreed that a frankly ludicrous £34 should be charged for away adults. Unless the QPR site is mistaken, these are also now in the upper tier of the West Stand down the side rather than in the corner where we’ve always been before. Concessions are £23 for 16 to 21, over 60s and full time students over 22. Under 16s are £16. The club has received 12 wheelchair spaces priced as above. Tickets are on general sale from tomorrow.
Random checks of age ID applies on concession with adults attempting to gain access on a concessionary ticket automatically refused entry.
Welcome to Leeds.
