Schneiderlin Triumphs At Official Club Awards

Morgan Schneiderlin did the double at the Clubs official awards dinner winning both the players player of the year and the fans vote as well.

Its been a good year for Morgan Schneiderlin who incredibly still only 23 has completed his fifth season at St Mary's, initially signed by Rupert Lowe as a 18 year old unknown, eyebrows were raised as to why we had spent most of that summers meagre transfer budget ( allegedly £1.2 million) on a teenager from France and he sat strangely amongst the other new arrivals mostly free transfers.

But over that five years we have seen him mature into a Premiership class midfielder with this season the crowning glory of a Saints career which will have seen him be a virtual ever present in the Premier in a club carrer that so far has seen him start 145 league games plus 26 as sub making him one of the few players who have played for the club in all the three tiers of English football we have played in, although it has to be said most of his peers in that group are from this seasons squad.

Perhaps this season has seen him not only find true consistency in forming a midfield partnership with Jack Cork that has been highly successful and key to Saints revival after a dodgy start, but also add a few goals to his name, previously to this season he had only scored 3 league goals in his career, now he has almost doubled that tally in this season alone, so far hitting 5, the manner of the way he plays perhaps suits the Premier more than either of the two other divisions he has featured in, but those Saints fans who have watched him throughout the five seasons the first of which was a struggle always knew it would.

So all things being equal Morgan deserves this award on many fronts, of course for his performances this season that is beyond question, but also for his loyalty to the club and the way that like many of those who have watched him this season, he has had to endure some tough times first before the success arrived and that makes the triumphs all the more sweeter in the fact that they have been earned over a period of time not just in the short term.
