Really hoping for a better keeper. Surely the recruitment team have taken into consideration that Mccarthy spent 90% of last season as the third choice keeper at a 4th placed Championship club. Also we know his limitations from previous Prem seasons. We are likely going to struggle and be under the cosh in many games. A very good keeper could make a huge difference to our points tally by the end of the season. Such an important position on the pitch for a club like ours.. Seemingly not seen that way by the powers to be.. Strange. [Post edited 29 Jun 21:40]

If this deal gets done then hopefully he'll turn out to be a decent signing. My worry is we're replacing the average Romain Perraud with another version of.. Romain Perraud. |

Couldn't agree more Kingslandstand, although I admit I had to look up what they were. Let's face it, who doesn't like a little tart full of creamy custard. |

This is an area where we should be able to pick up a decent keeper for far less that 15/ 20 million. I'd rather an older short term solution, get 2 or 3 seasons out of the keeper on high wages but not pay through the nose in transfers to aquire him |

No definitely not. We'd sink sink further into a financial mire and could possibly turn into a midtable Championship club playing in front a lot of empty seats. It's all a gamble, you're either of a positive mindset who hopes for the best and hope the club find the right path with recruitment and tactics towards a goal of getting close to 40 points and build from there. Or grumble. |

1. You may be right but they both have shown in previous seasons to be high quality Premier league players who were good enough for England. 2. Our last season in the Prem was disastrous because we spent a fair chunk of money on unproven kids and older players who've never played in the Prem before.. Onuachu, Caleta Car, Orsic etc. 3. We don't have alot of money to spend (80 plus million debt) and with FFP rules we'd only end up getting a points deduction if we did splash the cash on a ton of players. |

We've already got experience and leadership. Stephens is captain for a reason. Between Bedders and Stephens they've about 300 Prem games u der their belt. It's pace and power we need. |

From what I've read he's been a decent squad player but not a regular starter since they came up. 50 Prem games. Can play full back or winger. Iranian. Brentford fans on their forum praised him as a decent player who never let the club down but not great with the physical side of the game. |

Well when we're losing games in the Prem next season and plan A isn't working, personally I'd feel more confident bringing on a 6 ft 7 striker with 150 plus goals to his name than Super Sekou and giving Plan B a go... Lots of crosses and get it forward quickly. |

We persevered with Armstrong in his two Premier campaigns when he scored a total of 4 goals in 50 matches. Che took many many games before he started scoring a few. Onuachu cost a similar amount and can clearly score goals but we never gave him a proper go. I appreciate he may not be suited to our possession based style but as Butty says surely he's a better option off the bench than Mara. Unless of course someone offers us 10 plus million then fair enough flog him. How do we know if Ross Stewart will be any good either as well? Similar age and only ever scored at lower level football. |

We'll highly likely struggle and lose lots of games next season. I'm guessing you'll be back on here to mock us. I think there's a fair chance Pompey could do well next season as they're confident and on a roll, possibly an outside bet for the playoffs? It's just a bit strange that you take such enjoyment in posting on a Saints forum when you come across as a fully functioning adult, yet this would be something you'd only expect from a teenager.. Very odd or maybe you are just a kid? |

Forgot about Danny Fox, he was a poor player. I only ever saw Paul Moody play once and that was for Fareham as they played some cup final against Kidderminster at the Dell and he looked pretty good at that level. Bit different to the Premier league I guess! |

Lol.. Ahh Raymondo.. Forgot about him! A step down in quality from Steve Baker..i used to feel sorry for him, I remember the booing and abuse coming from the Milton Rd end when he played.. |
