Saints In For Ince
Saints In For Ince

According to press reports this morning Saints are sniffing around Blackpool wide man Thomas Ince the son of former West Ham, Man Utd and Liverpool man they love to hate Paul Ince.

Most Saints fans expected us to be chasing the other Blackpool winger Matt Phillips, but latest reports suggest that its Tom Ince that we are after, Ince signed for the Lancashire club from Liverpool in January after spending the first part of the season on loan at Bloomfield Road, by all accounts Liverpool didnt want to let the player who had just turned 20 leave Anfield, but to his credit, Ince feeling that his first team opportunitys would be limited after a solitary appearance as sub in the Carling Cup, wanted to play games rather than sit back and watch.

Before joining the Tangerines his only League experience was a short spell on loan at Notts County in 2010/11, where 2 goals in 3(3) games was satisfactory, this whetted his appetite and he went to Blackpool at the start of this season initially on loan before a permanent deal in January, since then he has blossomed and capped his season with a superb display in the Play Off Final at Wembley, equalising for Blackpool shortly after the break and looking the part throughout.

Of course Saints will be linked with a lot of players during the summer, however Ince does fit the bill in a lot of respects, in that he seems to have the positive mental attitude that is needed to succeed, too often we have seen players arrive at St Mary's on loan from big clubs, ie Falque from Spurs, they arrive with good reputations but are clearly lacking something, thats something is the right attitude, you might expect the son of Paul Ince to have attitude all right, but it seems that not only has he inheirited his Fathers determination, but he has a decent work ethic of his own, this would suit Saints down to the ground.

Is he a right winger or left winger?

Not a chance for various reasons. first of all he did not sign in January, he signed a 4 year contract with Blackpool last summer before the season started and he has clearly stated in the national media that he wants at least another year with Blackpool before he considers even moving.

The lad is very good, plays left or right but he wants to play regular first team football more than anything else at the moment which he will get at Blackpool

That's true but he also has a release clause if a Premier League side should come knocking.
And, we have all seen players swearing loyalty to their clubs then at the drop of a hat they go.

He does not have a release clause at all, the only clause is Liverpool get 25% of any transfer fee so it going to have to be a very high offer to tempt Blackpool. Maybe we should have sold them JP when we had the chance to boost the transfer coffers

As we know everyone has his price. I just think it might take more than £2m plus JP to get him. As for regular first team football, I think his chances would be pretty good on the right of our midfield.

The one thing that might be in our favour is that Holloway may well be tempted elsewhere. His comments after the playoff final were less positive with regards his future at Blackpool and I would be surprised if he is still there next season.

Ince would be a great signing.

I'm always amazed at how sure people are about professional footballers contracts and the details therein. Let's just wait and see. If the cheque book comes out in force, who knows?
