Is Madsen the man to solve QPR's long term CM issue? Signing
at 22:28:30

‘is being able to receive the ball from the defence, often in a tight space and under pressure, get on the half or full turn with that ball, and progress it forwards’

100% this. It drives me mad. The whole point of playing it out of the back is to create space and take out of play pressing oppo. But we knock it straight back 9 times out of 10 and it ends up being lobbed up front. And do it all at a really ponderous ‘pace’. It is so bloody tedious. It’s lack of confidence and/or responsibility. Grow a pair, all of you in centre-mid, and sometimes turn and slot a player.

Sad, sad situation - Preview
at 06:18:04

Great, reflective report Clive.

I’m pleased to read so many supporting Warbs. He’s honest, grounded and I have never heard him complain about the hand he’s been dealt. He’s made mistakes, sure, the worst of which was the awful window and putting new players in who are patently not as good ahead of loyal players. It seems to me that that is at the bottom of this run (as well as the horrible injury run): team spirit (which you need in abundance when your quality is lacking) seems to have taken a dive. It’s no coincidence that neither of the two loanees got on the pitch yesterday. He got it wrong. We all get things wrong in life. That’s life and his overall record needs looking at in the round. That was a far better performance. He deserves to be kept on. Most of us remember the shambles that the managers you mention produced. Lee/Les, I hope you’re reading all these comments. Please please stick with him.

The perks of being a QPR fan - Report
at 07:26:51

i might be accused of blowing smoke up your arse, Clive, but from this (well-read) old git to a much younger man, you ae the greatest sports writer i have ever read. Period. Full stop. And how the likes of the Times have not signed you up, i have no idea. Please get yourself a good agent and make the career progress (if you want it, of course) that your talent deserves

The annual meek surrender at Griffin Park - Report
at 09:02:02

we'll have to agree to disagree, North. The run of losses was well and truly underway when he switched to that system, with no time to train it into the players. Granted, we kept losing, but we were unlucky in most of those losses. We are toothless up front with Wells and Eze "supporting" him and we need Smith's physical presence at both ends of the pitch, in my opinion. And on Saturday (and very often other times) it means the Freeman plays mostly wide left (granted not against Leeds) and that negates him

The annual meek surrender at Griffin Park - Report
at 19:16:40

More than a few ‘chuckle out loud’ pieces there!

Can’t disagree with anything, except that we are best suited to that formation. Surely not, with Eze a complete passenger since Christmas and an out of form Wells up top on his own. With 3 at the back, we could play Smith, get proper crosses into him and he was scoring and worrying opposing defences. No idea why we’ve gone away from that.

Improving QPR impress at Leeds — Report
at 21:27:25

Washington s far post Miss exemplified the difference between a predator, such as Austin, and ((for want a better way of putting it!), one who isn't. You have to gamble there, expect the defender to miss it. Washington just stood there so would never score.

Having said that, I'm loving my r's football again!

QPR upwardly mobile after joyful Barnsley show - Report
at 19:56:25

Cheers Clive. I'm at the stage of my supporting lkife that, as I've often posted, I just want to be entertained. If we lose in the process, sobeit. I was seriously considering giving up my 50 year season ticket next season, after years of turgid stuff, but I'm re-enthused and cant wait to get to matches again!

Ramsey takes the long walk, but the root cause of the problems remains - Column
at 23:32:02

That's brilliant as usual Clive. Everything you say is bang on, but the fact is that Ramsey was always the wrong choice,, proved it last season, the absolutely shocking performance first game of season at Charlton confirmed it (and personally broke me, affecting me in a negative way more than any game I can remember as it confirmed how shite we were going to be under him) and he had to go for his continual nonsensical selection of one of the most limited players I have ever seen at this level, Karl Henry.
The board needed shooting, as I said at the time, for not bombing Ramsey out before the end of last season and getting Warburton in, telling him his only remit was to build some solidity, which a huge percentage of us would have taken (as long as Henry was not part of it)

QPR add style to function and sweep aside beleaguered Boro - report
at 21:34:36

only thing i'd disagree with Clive is your take on the penalty decisons. The ref must have been desparate to have a chance to give us a pen, because the decision not to give one for the barge into Faurlin was awful and I am sure that the ref knew it.

this was great stuff to watch though, a type of performance not seen for years (I still reckon that 3 or 4 games under Majiton when we had 3 mobile playes behing a cenre-forward, belive it was Jay Simpson, was the best stuff for a long, long time.

QPR off to winning start as Sheff Wed pay penalty — match report
at 11:26:30

As is always said, it’s a game of opinions. I completely disagree about Faurlin having a poor first half. Seems that judgment is based on one (admittedly potential costly) first half misplaced pass, but I thought he was superb throughout. Just shows what we have been missing. I also don’t agree that he was rubbish last season. He was no worse than most and I thought quite good most times (the away game at Spurs stands out for me).
And why was he so good? Because he was having to play for two people, as Henry was an absolute passenger throughout and, when he did get involved, all he could do was pass it 5 yards to a teammate who was invariably in a far worse position to deal with the ball than Henry had been. His performance was a real worry and I hope Harry isn’t weeded to him in that position – far rather Chris Baird if he signs.
As for Onouha, I like him, but thought he was outmuscled on Satruday and Clint had to cover for him a lot. TBH, I think the whole back 4 (with Zero coverage from Henry) looked bloody awful.

LFW Awaydays — Vicarage Road, Watford
at 12:39:56

got to say that i am a bit gutted about the atmosphere for this one. I must have been one of the first people to have bought tickets for this game and, as usual, because i cannot cope with having low seats behind the goal (no peerspective of pitch), i asked for seats high up. Happy days, the bloke at the R's ticket office gave me two in "JJ". So that has to be about 36 rows up, right? No, because A is not the lowest row, but AA is. NOt only that, but we were stuck in the corner, so, whilst loved the win and celebraoed the goals like madmen, I still did not feel the atmosphere that you mention, Clive. Having said that, did it feel great afterwards?! (except when the mind drifted back to the impending points deduction)

LFW end of term report part one — every player assessed
at 23:18:11

Loved Clint Hill all season for everything he did, including, as Clive says, countless saving headers. I agree that we; in many ways, has a 'lucky' season because defensively we weren't as good as the goals against column shows.

Derry incredible for 2/3rds of season but felt his legs had gone near the end and the team performances suffered as a result. I really hope Buz is given a chance in that role next season. I reckon he is one of only a handful of players who can make it in the top flight.

Faurlin quite superb and, for me, put in the performance of the season by any player away at Reading.
