Given the fact that we have only one major trophy to our credit in 140 years, I don’t imagine that those tasked with dusting the trophy cabinet will be overly stretched n the next 125. |

It’s all gone very quiet on here from the “ It’s all Russell Martins fault” brigade. Different manager, rinse and repeat results which simply confirms that the squad assembled by Sports Republic never had a chance of being vaguely competitive. Sports Republic’s employees are an object lesson in ineptitude a fact confirmed by two relegations from the Premiership in just three seasons. |

Spot on Southamptonfan. I got slaughtered early in the season when I attempted to point out that it wasn’t all Russell Martins fault and that the whole squad weren’t good enough to compete at Premiership level, irrespective of the manager. Here we are now with a different manager and “ yes” the playing style has changed, but it’s made no difference whatsoever to our results. Fault for our current situation doesn’t rest with our managers. Fault rests squarely with Sports Republic’s total ineptitude in the assembly of a squad which never had the slightest chance of being competitive this season. We were relegated weeks ago and unless and until our owner dispense with the services of the likes of Ankerson to name but one, we will not be playing again in The Premiership for many a season. Put simply, as two relegations in three seasons prove, they aren’t up to the job and never will be. [Post edited 16 Jan 22:52]

Rinse and repeat, it’s the Southampton way don’t you know. Exactly the same every time we play away in the Premiership, which season it doesn’t matter. Boss the game for Seventy minutes once again tonight, creating multiple chances, can’t convert and end up losing a game we should have won easily yet again. And tomorrow it will be the same old rubbish spouted again.” Good effort, we were unlucky etc etc“. It’s the Southampton way and it’s the reason we have only won one major trophy since 1885. |

Nick, for all the good he has been to Southampton Football Club and its supporters, there’s a view to take that if Ankerson where to be replaced tomorrow by a pantomime horse, the club and its supporters probably wouldn’t notice any difference. |

Well done Nick “ There’s more joy in heaven at one sinner who repentive etc etc” given that you now appear to acknowledge that the buck at least stops with someone higher up the food chain than some poor unsuspecting ticket office employee as you previously suggested. Reference your last paragraph. How I wish Solak had said it. At least then we would all appreciate that we had a major shareholder who took a day to day interest and cared for fans who support the club. I’m sure you would agree that recently, all evidence points strongly in the opposite direction. |

Nick, if you think that there is the slightest similarity between the management of a business the size of McDonalds or for that matter Sports Direct compared to Sports Republic you are very simply way off beam. McDonalds and Sports Direct have thousands of outlets retailing hundreds, if not thousands, of different items in some cases worldwide. In comparison Sports Republic’s task is to attempt to run a relatively small business with a turnover a fraction of that compared to the two examples you have quoted, with one product and one product only to sell-football. The fact that they can’t attractively price a 3rd Round Cup game against Swansea with a 16.30 Sunday kick off, speaks volumes as to the ineptitude of their whole organisation. And no that ineptitude isn’t just restricted to a faceless ticket office employee who you suggest was responsible. Any number of senior management employees from the C E O downwards with their finger on the button should have been able to see that the suggested pricing was wrong. The fact that they didn’t act is testament to their inherent ineptitude fully exampled by the second relegation in three years that now awaits us. Will today’s Titanic Deck Chair shuffling exercise at Board Level provide a better future ? One can only hope I suppose. |

Nick, over the years you and I have disagreed ( and on occasions agreed ) on many subjects. During that period I’ve always admired you for standing up for S F C when others ( including myself ) were taking them to task. However, your ongoing defence of Sports Republic in relation to the exorbitant cost of F A Cup tickets is starting to make you look slightly ridiculous. As a fellow contributor pointed out, if Sports Republic through the actions of their C E O and senior management aren’t responsible for all aspects of S F C ( including ticket pricing ) then exactly who is ? Honestly Nick, sometimes it really is better not to try and defend the indefensible and this is one of those occasions Sir. Going forward, what will be interesting for the Burnley game is if Sports Republic learn from their pricing error of the Swansea match. Given the pigs ear of everything else they have done this season I’m not hopeful personally. |

How many more times is it necessary to ask contributors to get the definition correct regarding people who come to this country ? My understanding is that at law they are asylum seekers and only become illegal immigrants if and when their request for asylum is denied. By all means have an exchange of opinion as to whether or not they should be in the UK but at least get the basics correct. |

Well if he did go in January it would save his C V from having to show that he was a keeper who was relegated from the Premier League three times with three different clubs ! |

100% correct in what you say Nick. I’ve met the ladies ( we share the same car park ) and two kinder more enthusiastic Saints people you couldn’t wish to meet. I remember being particularly impressed with their dedication when told that they had to be on the coach at some ungodly hour for a 12.00:KO at Leeds last season. Like others I don’t necessarily agree with the content of their poetry but can say that football in general and Southampton Football Club in particular would be a worse place without their sort. There is a lot to be said in favour of maintaining thought independent of the mainstream, long may they continue. [Post edited 10 Jan 16:15]

“ between them they would set the price that would be rubber stamped by the CEO and Board “. So, on that basis the ticket office manager and marketing director are as completely out of touch in equal proportion to the C E O and Board members then ? If between them they can’t even price a 3rd Round Sunday afternoon F A Cup game against Swansea attractively,it’s not difficult to understand why they have twice relegated our club from the Premier League in just three seasons is it ? Honestly, have any of them got any interest in football and our fans or they just view it as an entertainment business with a football club attached ? |
| Forum Reply | FA Cup Tickets at 09:29 10 Jan 2025
No disrespect intended Nick but honestly you are way off beam here. You appear to be blaming the ticket office alone for what we both agree is overpricing, as if the ticket office was a separate entity to Sports Republic and their utterly hopeless C E O and Board. Surely, you don’t truly believe that do you ? |

£10 for kids on the day Nick. £76 for two adults and two kids ( including £6 booking ) on the day. What parallel universe do those who run our club inhabit nowadays ? |
| Forum Reply | FA Cup Tickets at 21:45 9 Jan 2025
No Nick, what it shows is that our club is run by a bunch of imbeciles. I’ve a mate who is going to Carrow Road and he tells me that it’s also only £5 for kids. |

A long well thought out piece Nick and I understand what you are trying to get across. Unfortunately I believe that due to Sports Republic’s total and complete ineptitude resulting in two relegations from The Premiership in three years, most fans have simply reached a tipping point. The phrase “ Fool me once, shame on you ; fool me twice shame on me” comes to mind. Protest this season is totally irrelevant, fans disillusionment simply having gone too far. Where they will protest is during the close season when asked to renew their season tickets for The Championship. This time around I foresee a very very long spell outside of the top flight and Sports Republic will have nobody to blame except themselves. |
