I was in favour of releasing EEL in the summer. I will hold my hands up and say wrong call based on his start to this season, we are missing him enormously just now. Sassi isn't the answer. If the manager doesn't have faith in Ferguson, then we need to recruit a dependable, experienced centre half ASAP or else the season will be over by the time EEL gets back.
We're crying out for a Paddy Madden esque talisman to lead the line. Someone who can make intelligent runs. A composed finisher. Virtually impossible to find at this level unless you spend good money on bringing someone from the football league, I concede. Kairo has no footballing intelligence. When the ball comes into the box he's never there.
That was a bad miss from Kairo at 0-0. Keeper made the save but he should have buried it. If Rodney is going to play wider, then on the basis of the first two games, we are going to need a better central striker than Kairo if we are to meet our goals this season.
Dan Adshead on trial at Oldham in a friendly last night. Bit of a shame, I would have liked to see him back here. Although I guess the Aaron Henry signing probably put pay to that.
With the perfect takeover in place and Season Ticket prices still set at affordable levels, there is every reason to feel optimistic about the club. But this doesn't really seem to have translated into Season ticket sales - 1500 feels disappointing to me. 2000 should be an absolute minimum when you consider where the club was and is now.

As pre season starts, 14 professionals currently signed for this season, plus however many of the three scholars have accepted. 5 defenders in the squad, which includes Kyle Ferguson who struggled to stay fit all of last season. A 39yo Ian Henderson also. I'd say we are at least six players short currency, especially with the new guidance around permitted number of subs. Preparation looks poor again.
Strange move by Oldham, but no complaints. I think there are question marks about his fitness and his concentration in games. Lost his runner many times last season. Maybe the two are linked ?
And still the club doesn't learn. The footballing decisions are still unfathomable. A two year contract for a player as limited as Armstrong is complete madness. Miles short of the standard of player needed to get out of this division. I assume it will be D'Mani Mellor next on a two year deal.
Just a personal view but I dont see us getting out of this league with EEL in the side. A two year deal doesn't therefore feel like good business to me.
