We've been saying for ages Saints can't play five at the back, even before Juric. Every comment after every recent loss fans have been saying go to a back four.

As soon as Juric does it, bingo, we play a lot better, apart from Dibbling who needs to go out on loan asap. We made a couple of mistakes which cost us the game but I think a creditable performance and, certainly, not embarrassing as we have been with our, walk-this-way-please, midfield.

Just goes to show that all the fans know better than Juric so SR get rid asap please.

We had scousers booing their team at half time

So Russell Martin you saw yesterday what a small adjustment to your possession game could have achieved

Under pressure from the start but thought Manning handled Salah well. Lacked any punch up front, without a striker. Sulemana played reasonably well but Tyler couldn't get into the game & was frequently doubled up on. We certainly looked better with a back four!

But for Colbacks brain fart we would have got a point - at least.

Shameful that in 90 mins of normal play - 45 of which against 10 men - we didn't have a single shot on target. Their goalie didnt need to make a single save until 95 mins. There cannot be a team in this league that is in even the slightest bit worried about playing against us.

Until we have a proper, injury free, striker or two we are going no where but mid-low table. Goals win matches and since Chaz left us for the first time, we have not had anyone who can regularly score goals and keep fit.

Thank God for our 2 month purple patch in December & January.

Going into this game against a decent team, with a good new striker and a good manager was always going to be difficult. Doing it without your 2 most reliable midfield shields, no striker and a front 4 who between them barely reached 2 metres or 80 kilos (for the seniors about amongst us that's 6 feet or 12 stone) was hopeless. But actually we played quite well, especially when the opponents were reduced to 10 men, but tbh WBA were always a shade stronger and just a bit more dangerous.

So a bit like Sheff Utd, not quite good enough in a division where gradations of spending power make all the difference. The Baggies could buy themselves a decent striker in January and a couple of other players who actually cost money.

You can argue about Marti's selections but playing without a No 9 was a gamble worth taking and most of the other decisions made themselves. Ashby may have provided a bit more muscle than Yang and an extra body in midfield may have helped when we didn't have the out ball to Michi up front. It was good to see Morrison get game time. Saito and Chair tried their best but the WBA defenders know how to make it difficult.

Overall a decent performance but we’re never going to win many anyway, but we did show like we had some fight in the team.As for Dibling he seems to just wants to get on the pitch but then wanders around looking for something to do,l don’t know if he is really making the effort or if he is just going through the motions until he leaves us.

Although Liverpool looked a bit off the pace in the first half, we played well. Ramsdale, THB, Smallbone and Fernandes were great. Thought the lineup was good, square pegs in square holes. Jan B was unlucky to need to come off, however ABK, another square peg, played well.

Shame about the second half but first half showed that there is some fight left in us
if the team is set up right.

Today Saints were not outclassed, only a completely stupid tackle from Smallbone and a ridiculous handball from Sugawara stopped us getting a point. Smallbone didn't need to tackle, Nunez was running away from goal and was nearly out of the penalty area. Sugawara just had to shield the ball out of play.
As for Nick's suggestion that the team is picked by a lottery, just remember that in the home game Russell Martin picked Fraser at left back to mark Salah, with the obvious result.

Personally I think that Smallbone had his best game this season and then the penalty. Nunes shouldn't have been on the pitch anyway to score or get fouled, big clubs getting the decisions again.
Fernandes was our man of the match for me followed by Manning.

Kudos to the fans that travelled all the way up to Anfield on Saturday. You all sounded great on Radio Solent, loud & proud, all the way through the match. I think we Saints fans all knew yet another defeat was on the cards, so hats off for making the long trek anyway. Just about everything at the club is sh1t at the moment - but that can never be said of our fans who just keep on backing the club, defeat after defeat.

To coin a phrase (or rather a song title); things can only get better.

I've said this before but we need to stop conceding goals from crosses.
Whether they are crosses or set pieces, we look all at sea every time.
We have players who just don't jump...Paal and Varane the main culprits.
We are 20% away from being a good consistent side.

We played well,, worked hard and created chances, more than Sheff Utd. Most pleasingly we weren't bullied by their physicality. Michi was always prepared to mix it as we knew he would, but the youngsters Yang and Morgan found it hard. They're not used to this level of intensity but still showed some good touches. Saito and Smyth offered more.

The first goal seemed to come from several errors, Yang losing the ball, Paal and Dunne slow to cover Brereton Diaz's run and Nardi should have come off his line. The second was basically a worldie, the sort of goal we conceded at the start this season.

We got no help from the Ref. In general letting the game run is good, but there were too many fouls on Rs players that went unpunished. When Choudhury chopped down Saito in the second half a second yellow would have been justified but we just got the free kick. Wilder saw the risk and hauled
Choudhury of shortly after.

We can be positive about the performance, but still disappointed as we largely matched the Blades. They were pacier and sharper with their chances. They've spent more money and are in line for automatic promotion for a reason. Varane, Colback and Chair all had good games. We still need to find the quicker, progressive passes through midfield and be prepared to run with the ball, but this was hard against a well organised team who pressed very well.

Difficult to choose a MotM, but I think Varane gets it.

First 20 minutes looked promising They kept possession ala RM but played forward quicker
Again we collapsed after the first goal
ABK Did a Stella job in the first half considering he was trying to play as a one man back line When joined by THB it looked like the best CB pairing we have had all season
Presumably he will add capt Jack or Jan B and keep playing a back 3 Again individual mistakes cost us The Downes one when he wasn't under any pressure How do you prevent that sort of thing
Hopefully he will stop playing full/ wing backs as CB's and realise that Tall Paul is a waste of time as is Archer Play a youngster You never know we may have another Shearer in the club
