Swans players feel disrespected by their contract offers *Latest on 17:06 - Oct 30 with 1048 views | swancity | The gradually reducing wage bill means one thing. A weakening of the playing resources and less quality in the squad. That’s stating the obvious but that will lead to relegation sooner rather than later unless we can either considerably improve our scouting network and success rate or suddenly we start to produce local talent that’s good enough to go into the first team squad. We do need new owners with ambition and genuine interest in the club. You do feel for the manager and his staff. These are turbulent times and that’s not an exaggeration.

Swans players feel disrespected by their contract offers *Latest on 15:52 - Oct 30 by 3swan | More than likely as that's the football way of life. They don't pay a fee to the Swans. He can then get a better signing on fee and also higher wages spread over the contract term. |
All the clubs waiting for the summer can get gazumped by club with cash looking for first mover advantage. Someone can come in with a £500k offer for Darling and Swansea could accept the offer say from Sunderland. Harry of course can sit right. Darling can accept the generous deal or not It is upto to him. Swansea would use leverage to get him to go. If he refuses and prefers too go to WBA for free than that is what he will do People the usual suspects are telling me that Joey Allen had to go to Stoke as Liverpool accepted the fee but at the same time Harry Darling can sit right even if SCFC agree a few with someone else. Joey did not want to come to Swansea until he was not wanted by anyone else. Huw had floated a soft ball to him and Joey turned his back and headed for the Potteries.. [Post edited 30 Oct 17:21]

Another silly comparison. Allen didn't have to go to Stoke BUT he couldn't come to Swansea as we wouldn't bid enough. Why do you persiste in repeating lies? It's a matter of record that we wouldn't match the 8 million Liverpool wanted and that after a superb Euros Stoke bid 13 million and off he went. What leverage do Swansea have to poersuade him to go? More appealing is waiting til he's a free agent where, instead of Swansea getting 500k, he picks up higher wages. This post has to go down as either wummery or plain nonsense. Actually it'd be both because you know very well no player can be forced to sign for any club.

I think you will find that Joey wanted to return to Swansea at the time (when Liverpool agreed to sell him).

You miss my point. Darling leaves Swansea when he wants ( if there is offer ) and to whom he wants. Some posters are arguing that Swansea have mis managed the situation because they cannot force him to sign with a fee paying club. Swansea cannot force him to sign for a fee. Similarly Liverpool could not force Allen to go to Stoke. He went willingly. One hopes that Darling does the same or signs a new deal.

You simply do not understand bargaining power. Darling was worth £2m in the summer and that drops towards the January window. Swansea will be lucky to get £1m. You must understand this? Darling does not have to leave for £1m if he is stubborn and has a preferred club. Joey Allen was worth £8m- £10m in the Summer but that drops significantly drops by January at which point SCFC makes a bid of £5m. All Joey had to do is what Darling is doing and run down his deal and refuse any offers from Stoke Fans and the club are clouded by loyalty to old players who have little loyalty to the club especially one run by Americans. I cannot believe the club have given Cullen four more years. [Post edited 30 Oct 19:52]

you cannot believe the club gave Cullen a four year deal. Then you need to ask Jason, Ken, and Andy why they agreed this? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Swans players feel disrespected by their contract offers *Latest on 20:38 - Oct 29 by KeithHaynes | Andrew Coleman Edit - He would be foolish to not engage with Hodge on what other clubs are prepared to go to. He has many contacts. But Coleman has his hands tied by the financial constraints he himself has imposed regards profit and sustainability for 2026. And of course then there is Levien. This is once again a very tricky discussion based on the desire to save on a new contract that could have been signed in the summer. Anyone who thinks differently hasn’t been listening.

"And of course there is Levein" IMHO a succinct summary of why we are in the position we are in.

You mention Joe Allen, what if Stoke were offering twice as much as Swansea? Bird in the hand……….. Players have a short career and 1 injury can ruin as can a a loss of form etc. I don’t blame Joe Allen for taking what was on fire at Stoke. If Darling and Cabango haven’t had new contract offers by now, then that’s a poor reflection on the club. If I were in their shoes, I’d be annoyed and I’d be looking for the outski, but it’s a risky gamble because 1 injury and it could be all over. Paid up until the end of their contract in June, or paid up for another 3 years on the back of a new contract.

I'm certain that players have a clause written into their contracts that they can't talk about how much they are on.

Financial disclosures, and private agreed material are covered by all sorts of legislation. Disclosing exact conditions can render the person doing so to committing a crime. No agent would do that, worst from the fact their reputation would be in tatters. For players, I would doubt it’s a clause unless the club or player insist on it. The areas aside the obvious and most crucial are. Confidentiality Clauses: Restrictions on disclosing club information. Social Media Restrictions: Rules on social media use to avoid public controversies. Non-Compete Clauses: Limitations on joining certain clubs after the contract ends. Recent Innovations

Yes I have said all along Joey went to Stoke because he preferred Stoke to Swansea. He could have helped Swnsea out by sitting tight like Darling is doing and knocking down the transfer fee allowing Swnsea to increase his wages. Lets hope Stoke make an offer for Darling.
