I don't know how many will brave their souls but I can't believe that people don't have them. Music makes me emotional, even Battle Without Honor Or Humanity will make me well up before kick off at times. Ones that will guarantee it for are...
and...
The grass is always greener.

Remember hearing it the day after having to suffer one of my dogs being put to sleep; absolutely broke me and cannot listen to it without blubbing as its a complete flashback

It's a difficult one as at any particular time, depending on how you are feeling, something you listen to can take you back to a time that is gone and that you won't ever find again - so it can be from the 70s and my youth; the dance music from the time I went back to college in my 30s to study law that was a good time; or just the words in a song I've found recently. If I was to pick something this would be the one that still evokes the same feelings when I listen to it after all these years

Penlee lifeboat tragedy; Christmas; a launch so perilous, the Coxswain had refused to take two volunteers from one family.
The lifeboat, in high seas, with four crew already saved, could have aborted, but instead bravely pulled alongside for another attempt to rescue the remainder. If you can get past that line, that's more than I've ever managed...

The second part of this, from 3 mins 45 s, always gets me. So much so that I actually used it in a research study on musical frisson a good few years ago.

Friday arvos at work recently I've been listening to re-runs of Soul Music on Radio 4 Extra.
Don't know if anyone else here ever listens - its a great show, goes into the technicalities of the music, how it came to be written, and also there's some personal stories about what it means to people. You can pretty much bloody guarantee that there will be someone who's lost someone associated with the thing. (The episode on The Last Post is a classic.)
Anyway, this week it was La Boheme, and I know bugger all about opera but I swear I was struggling to keep tears out of my eyes, as the sun was going down, up a sodding ladder trying to prune an apple tree.

I don't think Springsteen's The Rising has been included yet.
Conceived and written in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 it's emotional charge never wanes. Presented as the fever dream/nightmare of a first responder, the chorus is, paradoxically, almost like a Pentecostal service. It shouldn't work but it does.
"Faces gone, black eyes burnin' bright" gets to me every time...

Did you know that she is Maya Rudolph's mom? I went down a bit of a Minnie Riperton rabbit hole recently. In later performances she would sing "Maya, Maya, Maya" at the end after her daughter was born. Minnie tragically died at the young age of 31 due to cancer.
