Gareth Bale to Swansea ? Really ? on 17:16 - Jun 18 by Lorax | Well it depends on the formation chosen I guess, maybe he'd make the bench or get in my second team! He's a great player yes but not in the first eleven for me. |
Even if he’s on the bench he still qualifies as one of the greatest of all time. At his peak he was unplayable. The only British player in the last forty years who comes close to having that X factor is gazza before the injuries and booze.

Kenny Dalglish, Ryan Giggs. Like I said, it depends on the formation. I think there are far more than that too, besides Gazza. Robson, Lampard, Gerrard and maybe even Mark Hughes. Different styles yes but all top, top players. Then, as it was stated "of all time" there are a lot of players who make the grade.

Gareth Bale to Swansea ? Really ? on 08:48 - Jun 18 by Whiterockin | The obvious choice, if it came down to Joe on a 2 year contract or Bale for 3 months picking his games, its a no brainer. |
We're more likely to need a player in Bale's positions than Allen's.

After playing at the highest European level with Real Madrid you’d have to concede he has that X factor though

His goal scoring record for Real Madrid is definitely X Factor! 176 games 81 goals.

I don't disagree, but would you prefer Joe for 2 seasons or Bale for the odd game until November.

Yes but neither us nor Cardiff are Real Madrid, sorry to state the bleeding obvious but he got a lot more chances made for him there than he'll get in South Wales!

Beckham surely? Runner up Ballon D’Or, twice runner up FIFA world player of the year, Premier League winner 6 times, La Liga winner and Champions League winner. Lots of people say that his off field stuff created his legacy on the field - I think it had the opposite effect. I think because of all the off field stuff people didn’t give him the credit his talent deserved. One of the best midfielders I’ve seen, his passing was on a level I’ve never seen before and may never see again and one of the best engines in the game.

But no way above GB…..Bale won them the champions league v Liverpool on his own….5 times winner although I grant you this last one doesn’t really count. How many years did Becks even play in Madrid? From a dead ball it would be close as they both have exceptional talent. [Post edited 21 Jun 2022 10:39]

Gareth Bale to Swansea ? Really ? on 12:19 - Jun 21 with 1561 views | SkipTheJack | Even if Bale had no connection whatsoever to either city, this is very much a Cardiff-type signing and very much not a Swansea-type signing. Fans may get excited about signings like these ones, but there are far better ways to run a football club.

Gareth Bale to Swansea ? Really ? on 13:15 - Jun 17 by Sirjohnalot | It would be incredible, he doesn't need the money, so we could come to an arrangement, but he's a Cardiff boy, he'd never play for us. |
John Benjamin Toshack was from Canton, Cardiff and big enough not to worry about small town local considerations. These are matters for the local silly people.

Bale will put 10k on the attendance and I would imagine will cost next to nothing. Cardiff are on a winner, if he signs. Fans should gets excited. It would be nice to sign Joe Allen, but it will be like damp squid compared to Bale signing for Cardiff.

But value for money playing wise I'd opt for Joe

Wasn’t such a rivalry back in tosh days though? Some people even watched both teams I hear. Can you imagine joe Allen signing for us? He probably plans to retire out west so won’t be rocking the good ship swansea town will he? Curtis is another who springs to mind, a true gent.

You had never really looked at us as a rival before 1979, then we were both in the 2nd division and beat you 1 nil at the Vetch. And the rest his history, we have had the upper hand ever since

I would disagee with you, we already have two Joe Allen's in Grimes and Downes. Bale is a match winner, whatever condition he is in. Nobody in the championship will have this level of talent. [Post edited 22 Jun 2022 18:16]

It all really started to go wrong around 1979, although there were incidents in the early seventies. The tear ups at both grounds were in monumental numbers. I’m talking many hundreds, more at times. It was seriously daunting but never stopped me and my mates going, impressionable young teens, skinheads and punks etc. And anyway the Mod revival had started and they had targets on the backs of their parkas 😂

They certainly need a Bale far, far more than we need an Allen. We're overstocked in midfield and our two starters are both just as good if not better at this stage of his career.
Gareth Bale to Swansea ? Really ? on 19:21 - Jun 22 with 1133 views | ReslovenSwan1 | I saw John Hartson get dogs abuse in 1982 or so at Ninian Park . This was around the Toshack time. Big john T just rose above these local considerations simple by the power of his personality. [Post edited 22 Jun 2022 19:22]

Tend to agree with OHG. However our meteoric rise to the First Division clearly raised the friction considerably more. Cardiff's arrogance and envy became so clear to see then and was fuelled by the Welsh media. Sadly still continues to this day [Post edited 22 Jun 2022 21:01]
