Could Saints Be About To Take The Money And Run
Monday, 2nd Feb 2015 14:25

Are Saints about to sell one of their prized assets and bring in a big pile of cash into the club coffers,? Yes say the rumour mongerers !

According to that sometimes reliable source the grapevine, Saints are about to take the money and run for Jay Rodriguez.

With the pleyer having so far refused to sign a new contract and his recovery taking longer than expected, the word is that Saints are talking to an unnamed big club possibly Manchester City and could be listening to offers of above £20 million.

With the player into the last year of his contract in the summer and no guarantee that he will return the same player, it could be that Saints feel that it is the right time to cash in, in an ideal world they would prefer to keep him, but there is much to gamble on doing so both from an injury point of view and financially so it could be that City may get their man and in doing so help the squad percentage of English players ratio.

Saints fans will be disappointed but the fact remains that if Saints are to stay in the top half of the league and keep progressing they need to make deals like this at the right time, the stark reality is that when big clubs come calling it will be hard to keep players, but as long as we sell them on our terms, when we want to then there is no reason why this should be a backward step, indeed aswe saw from last summer it can be a very positive forward one.

Too much of a gamble for me.
Jay Rod was great last season, but perhaps not clinical enough for one of the "big six", so they won't risk more than £20m on a player who cannot guarantee full form and fitness.

Whilst I am a big admirer of Jay Rod and would ideally love for him to stay, I think taking the money now is the right decision. We wouldn't get much out of him this season as he still has to make a come back, get match sharpness etc. Would he even be the same player? If he was playing and fully fit, it would be different.

As he hasn't yet signed a contract, it does seem he intends to move on anyway.

20 million and a hand shake, that'll do nicely, thank you.

Don't think he ever wanted to be here. Remember the drawn out negotiations over two windows with Burnley? He was waiting to see if a 'bigger' club came calling once we had shown interest. None did, so he signed with us hoping to up his profile. Take the money.

Look Jrod is is going to go in the summer regardless. If the mancs offer £20m or more we should bite their hands off and spend some of the money on Ings now.
Why - because jrod is just not going to return the same player - his style is full on and that injury will never allow any more full on play. Let him go, have a fit and running ings from next week and we march on. We really don't need the refuseniks at the ground spreading negativity.
