Cedric Van Der Gun has not given up hope on appearing in Swansea's promotion push despite seemingly heading for the exit door

Reports before Christmas suggested that Van Der Gun had instructed his agent to find him a move away from Swansea but after his FA Cup appearance and goal at the weekend he still thinks he can make a difference to the promotion push - if he is given the chance to do so.

He told the Western Mail “We have a very good team and I believe I can fit in pretty well when I play

“This year I haven’t played a lot of games but when I have, I’ve felt good.

“I haven’t been playing my best football yet, I know I can play better.

“But I am happy with my performances in the games I have played.

“I know I can do even better. You play your best football when you play regularly.

“Every player wants to play,” added van der Gun.

“I’m no different, I want to play every week.

“I had the opportunity and I thought I played well, especially having not played much at all recently.

“For every player it’s difficult when you are not playing a lot.

“I have no idea at the moment [if I will leave].

“I will have to wait and see what happens.

“For now, I am really happy to play a full 90 minutes, score a goal and now we will see from here.

“I’m happy to be back playing.

“I’ve had a few games now where I have not been involved in the squad, so it was important for me to get back in.

“To score a goal is always nice and I feel pretty confident in the way I play.”

Asked about the situation regards Van Der Gun, Brendan Rodgers told the same paper “It’s been difficult for Cedric, there’s no getting away from that,

“But he’s trained and worked exceptionally hard every day and his professionalism is very, very good.

“I can’t say never because he’s a player that when you get to that age and that part of your career you want to play.”
