| News Comment | Note To Rams Fans - You Can't Always Get What You Want! at 19:01:59
Although it is disappointing that no new permanent signings appear to be forthcoming, waiting for the emergency loan market to open is probably not as bad as it looks. It could prove to be sensible business practice as it may give Nigel the chance to get some players in and have a look at them before making their signings permanent as he has done with Fielding, Robinson and Ward. Ironically it also may lead to acquiring a better class of player especially when final Premier league Squads are announced. One name mentioned elsewhere in posts has been Michael Tongue, not able to get in the Stoke side but I'm sure would be a good acquisition if available and wanted. Somone like Shaun Derry at QPR could also do the midfield job for Derby, he has recently signed an extension to his contract at QPR but with their new wealth and the acquistion of several new players since he this was agreed, could now find himself out of their squad. I think the time for Derby fans to shout will be if there is no movements once the emergency loan season opens. |
| News Comment | RamBites: No Oakley - No Moussi - Rams Numbered! at 20:13:41
Hope '20' is being reserved for Miles Addison when he returns from his loan. It was his squad number last year. Although he was badly injured last year, I am a little surprised that Green has not got a squad number, although Nigel does seem to favour starting with about 24 squad members and adding to it as the season progresses. The fact that Bywaters, Leacock and Martin have not been issued numbers maybe is a pointer that they may all be on their way out of Derby but I don't think there would be many fans too upset at losing this trio, especially if Nigel could add one or two experienced players and two prospects to his squad. |

In a way I feel a lit bit sorry for Luke. Unfortunately, if I remember correctly, agreeing to sign Luke was Paul Jewel's last act as Derby manager, and if the club had not already been commited to the transfer, I do not think Nigel would have persued with it, and probably would have been able to use the money to purchase a player he really wanted. Because of this Luke did not really get a chance to make a name for himself at the club. The clause about Derby having to pay Charlton an additional fee if Luke had played one more game for Derby now makes the reason Nigel did not play him when Derby were cronically short of fit strikers makes more sense now than it did then. Wherever you go Luke good luck. |
| News Comment | Miles Addison Set For Shock Switch With Shackell? at 09:58:17
Totally agree. The only reason Miles should leave Derby is if he wants to go or if the effects of his injury are a lot worse than supporters realise. If fully fit he should command a relatively large fee and at 22 is the age of player that Derby should be encouraging and developing. Some of the players now already at the club around this age group really do have the ability and potential to take Derby back to better things. The difference could of course be whether Miles's move to Barnsley is permanent or on a loan basis allowing Miles to gain more valuble first team experience and regain his fitness if Derby do not think he is quite ready for them this season. I think it should also be taken into account that one position that Derby are desperately short of good cover at the moment is full back, and if Miles can perform at right back it does give Nigel the option to move John Brayford across to left back if Roberts is out for any reason. Possibly most Derby fans would have quite a different opinion if Barnsley were looking to take Dean Leacock instead. |
| News Comment | tRAMsfer news: Clubs Court Shakell & Maguire's Manager Maddened! at 19:20:32
It seems like in the Conor Salmon saga, Derby have once again gone in low for a player and alerted other clubs who now know the player is available for the right fee.If the player has the final choice of where to go is there now a danger he may think Derby did not value him high enough and choose to go elsewhere? I personally don't like the way the club don't appear to be trying to come to some agreement with Aberdeen for Maquire to stop the fee for the transfer going to tribunal. If Craig Bryson is worth the reported £350,000 fee plus add ons I would have thought Derby and Aberdeen could reach agreement along similar lines. Regarding fees, seeing two of his u21 teamates going for a combined fee of £37m makes the reported fee of £400,000 for Frank Fielding seem very good business and the fees of less than £1m for the two Scottish lads also seem relatively good and fair. Admittedly all three still have to prove themselves but Henderson and Jones still have to show they are consistent. |
| News Comment | Latest tRAMsfer news: Confirmation Clough Targeting Big Name! at 18:48:30
Originally a little surprised at this one, especially with Ross Atkins potential. However, Ross could possibly benefit from gaining some first team experience which Legzdins has got and instead, as I have read elsewhere, letting Ross go in a part-exchange deal, I think derby would be better letting him go on a season's loan to Burton, if Burton want him of course, they may prefer to take Saul Deeney back who days at Derby may become numbered if a good No 2 to Frank Fielding is signed. As far as big name signings go I wonder what this forum would have commented all those years ago when Clough senior made his big transfers bringing unknown players in from the likes of Hartlepool, Tranmere Rovers, Bradford Park Avenue and Worcester City? On another matter Ben Robinson, the Burton Chairman, has commented that he wanted the Lagzdins deal done quietly and surprised it has got into the press. Is this another Derby fault ? Trying to keep their fans happy by letting them know they are active in the Transfer market, but then upsetting the fans if the move does not come to fruition while alerting others clubs of a players availabilty eg Conor Salmon. |
| News Comment | Clough Comments On Resignation Rumour While Club Reports Nothing! at 11:51:16
Nigel's reactions to both the last two matches show how much he cares for the club, just what it needs after the last few appalling seasons. I like the way he admitted that he and his management team probably made a mistake in their preparation by planning to avoid defeat rather than planning to win but after the last few weeks that is understandable. It is a shame, once again, that the team conceed a goal in the dying minutes of a half, how many times has that happened not just this season but in previous ones too? As far as players coming in is concerned what club is going to let a player, particularly one they want to develop if there is perceived uncertainty at the club. |
| News Comment | Nigel Clough - "Not Very Bright"? at 12:34:30
While I agree that any comments, especially negative ones, should be kept in the dressing room I wonder if this is where Nigel's emotions, inexperience and frustration take over having to give a press conference immediately after seeing his team loose points in the last minute AGAIN. Remember he was criticised for not facing the press after the Crawley game, he gave his reason as anything he said would not have helped the situation. This comment, along with others made immediately after a bad performance seem to back that decision. As far as the comments 'not very bright' are concerned these were made in a purely footballing context and although most probably would have been better not said, it is upto the player how he reacts, hopefully he will react in the right manner if allowed to do so. Nigel has also been critised for comments about Kris Commons. Commons played very well for Derby this season until his contract talks started, once the offer was on the table his performances dropped off and he was away as soon as he could be, exactly as he did at Forest as some red fans warned. |
