Well, I requested, and received, the album this comes from for Christmas, having enjoyed their debut album, but reading up on the band last autumn, I learned that, sadly, they had jacked it in. A real shame because their retro rock is varied and engaging in my view.
Now, I see that they are back gigging . Good stuff
Oh, and I can't wait for prog rock band Echolyn's long awaited new double album. Here's a teaser, the album is currently only available digitally and only to those who have preordered. It will be released on March 7th.
I have a vague recollection of having a date in what I think was called The Railway Club, in Aylesbury, Bucks. It was my date's pick, it was her preferred boozer. In spite of being a local, I'd never been there before but it was packed, welcoming and very easy on the wallet
Great stuff and that excellent Jon Hopkins track reminded me that I have this on CD. Nils combines synthesizers, piano and all sorts of digital delays and processing beautifully
Krautrock you say? Behold the master of electronically processed guitar based music, in my humble opinion. It's scarcely credible that this shimmering beauty of a piece was created in 1974.
It slowly builds to a crescendo of soloing, then blissfully glides off into the distance. This track, all of the album in fact, was produced solely on guitars, using effects and processing. Groundbreaking
With Bond as the ref and Bourne as the fourth official, it's sure to be a thriller . Sian Ellis-Massey will be there to play Bond's exasperated assistant, Moneypenny, too.
I'm not currently based very far from Loftus Road, I'm only in Bracknell
I used to post on the QPRnet forum, as Midlands Hoop, and when I joined this forum - a dark, dark day for you all - I intended to use the same moniker.
Unfortunately, but characteristically, I messed up my registration and needed to choose another name. I liked the rhyming nature of RfromAfar and now here we are
He was very poor yesterday but taking him off at halftime might have lessened what I think is an overreaction. He has made positive contributions in other games.
I never think it is a good idea for any organisation, a football club or a company, to jettison someone after one bad day, unless they do something unethical. I think it breeds a culture of fear and makes people hide.
Donkeys years ago, I worked for a corporation based in the Midlands, in their Solihull office. We used to play lots of 11 a side football friendlies, and one day, our office, the company HQ, challenged our Tamworth office to a game.
They came over but were one short; being at home and a big office, we had plenty of players, so one of them - me - was loaned to the Tamworth office team.
Playing with them was quite an eye opener. Apparently, some of their players were in the squad of Tamworth the non-league team. We absolutely battered the Solihull office, with the main tactic being to get the ball to our pacy, skilful left winger, who supplied a conveyor belt of Lee Cook style quality crosses, four or five of which were headed home powerfully by our towering, Charlie Austin like centre forward.
I think we won 9-1. Cards on the table, I really didn't contribute a fat lot
"I couldn't give a tiny rat's muff if we finish 12th or 18th".
I would love us to win something too but the trouble is, with our thin squad, poor player development and S & P related constraints when it comes to buying players, we are usually only two or three injuries away from having a team which can't compete in the league.
I don't like to say it but that's the grim reality, as I see it.
Were we to slip out of the Championship - and our survival is far from guaranteed, think how awful we were until recently - we could take years to get promoted.
"The four goal gap is similar to the hidings half decent championship sides like Norwich and West Brom are getting at the moment. Gap is getting bigger and bigger. It’s nothing new".
Great point. I'm not saying it justifies giving up on cup games against Prem sides and I thought Marti's selection was sensible, given the need to rest key players and give game time to second string players who may be required for league matches, but I feel that pundits and the media continue to overlook the ever widening gulf.
They romanticise the cups based on how things were before the Premiership/Sky era. It doesn't mean lower league teams should be defeatist but man alive, the odds are stacked against them. The S & P rules only compound things.
If you're going to have a massive session while home alone, be sure to have a curry at the start of your programme of hedonism. It would be a shame to end up totally incapacitated before you had savoured such spicy delights
I'm not going to contest the water and forest management points but the fact does remain that the area is unseasonably dry due to lack of rain. From my earlier post, sourced from the L A Times:
"It’s safe to say this is [one of] the top ten driest starts to our rainy season on record,” said Ryan Kittell, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Oxnard. “Basically, all the plants are as dry as they normally are in October.”
California’s wet season can run from October to April, although most of the precipitation occurs from December to February".
Just to say: - Research into climate change and global warming takes into account the impact of natural variations, like volcanic activity, what the sun is doing etc. It takes those things into account. This is critically important to understand. Also, the earth is a connected system so climate is about the global picture and global temperatures. At times, regions will appear to be moving in different directions, like when the UK experienced the medieval warm period.
- People who care about the environment are not just on the far left. As examples, Thatcher was the first politician to make a major speech about global warming and I have recently seen a Tory grandee implore people to act to fix the climate in a major article in the Daily Mail.
