Quite like his notion that if political parties keep making clear and ambiguous statements on a particular policy such as the WASPI women and then suddenly change their mind then the WASPI women could have a case in law. That would stop some of the political lies!
Chris LaCivita, Trump's Campaign Manager has called Mandelson an ' Absolute Moron ' today.
Starmer is obviously great at sounding out candidates with stakeholders. The current Ambassador Dame Karen Pierce is highly regarded in Washington, she's been in post for 4 years, previous our permanent representative at the UN and a long career in representing the UK abroad.
Not sure how he is playing these days, based on what we saw I don't think he's a significant upgrade, he scores 1 goal in 10 as an attacking midfielder for example.
I think that's fair and you should have the data to understand how your organisation matches up to your catchment area to check for any potential bias. Even then you would have to start at organisations of 50 or more if 94 percent comes from one group in your catchment area.
Keith provided a link for this guy on the Manchester Airport thread, he's interesting in that as a barrister he fully aware of what he can say and often has a real insight into how things are in society as well as the law, Here he is on politics today:
A few years ago in private industry we were given general guidance to look at fair representation from the pool ' we were fishing in '
So at entry level jobs you would get a report to say that 90 percent of your locality was White British, 51 percent female etc. etc.
Where we had large numbers of staff you could pick up on any potential recruiting bias, obviously in small numbers of specialist roles you can expect some variation.
I thinks it's fair to have an aspiration to have a workforce that reflects the community you serve, how you get there requires a bit of time and skill. For example, the Senedd should start by looking at the educational outcomes for all groups, does everyone have an even chance of gaining employment?
There's a desperate need for the right mix of skills at the top of Welsh Rugby, a lack of strategy and planning as well as people who behave badly has been obvious.
Difficult to think of any police force that would not have reacted to that level of violence, in France or Italy the assailants would have taken a hammering.
The original article was text only with a picture, the video has been added in later. The text is very light on what those charged actually did but describes the police actions.
The issue we have is that we have a large number of MPs who have had political careers rather than experience of working in a careers with complexity, strategic and day to day consequences. Somebody running a business needs to understand markets, products, sales, service, supply chains, infrastructure, finance, people, process, technology and regulation in order to be successful, if they mess up there are real consequences for themselves and others. People get hurt, people lose their jobs, customers are put at risk, businesses fail. If you are a political aide or researcher and have a bad day there are no such concerns.
As I posted on the Budget Thread before the Budget there are issues with an approach that looks for growth and hopes for returns from taxing business and some wealth. There are always choices in a Budget but going after businesses with NI, Minimum Wage and Workplace Reforms at the same time is a risk, a phased approach would be better. If the tax returns do not increase as planned the cost of borrowing goes up quickly and we are in emergency budget territory because we have so much debt which will cost more and more to repay and the cost of repayment will squeezing services. The 10 Year Gilt rate is now above the level that was reached after Truss' budget, if the markets see a downturn in the economy we will be in trouble. I'm not an economist but having worked in business for many years, I do understand that when carrying large amounts of debt you tread slowly otherwise you risk going underwater as the debt costs can overwhelm you. France is in this territory.
My Geography teacher 30 or 40 years ago asked us to look at the long term impacts of the post War baby boom. We concluded workforce shortages, pensions and healthcare demand.
