Swansea City v Coventry City : Match day thread on 18:10 - Feb 1 by jack247 | Plenty of long balls down the channels, not much in it possession wise, no Matt Grimes. Be careful what you wish for. |
You can hardly base anything much on the first and only game without him, specially when there is clearly much more to it. Possession was 56% to 44% so it's not really close either. Then we had ONE shot on target out of 5, Coverntry had 6 on target out of 16 but we only had 11 touches in their box, they had 32 in ours so despite having 12% more possession than them they still had the best of the stats that mattered. Yet again having more possession has done nothing for us. We had 54% v Norwich too. More possession but a right hiding. We all knew the squad needed strengthening and we have lost several players, the squad is even weaker now than before the window so making this into a Grimes thing is quite comical.
Swansea City v Coventry City : Match day thread on 19:06 - Feb 1 with 1814 views | BarrySwan | You can normally judge the calibre of a manager from the drivel or otherwise that they spout during their televised interviews. I wanted Williams gone after listening to his very first post match interview after becoming manager.

Getting rid of Grimes is fine, but we have to replace him with a footballing midfielder or find a new way of playing. We had 11 touches in their box because we couldn’t pass our way from defence to midfield and resorted to the long balls some people have been craving. I may be wrong, but it looked like Coventry had more of the ball than us in the first half. Once it went 2-0, they just kept us at arms length, which was fairly easy for them. I certainly agree the squad is weaker. Let’s see what Coleman can do by Monday Edit - it was very much a Grimes thing. Doesn’t mean it will be long term. I said before the game I didn’t think Williams would have enough time to find a new way of playing by today and he had no plan B. That was abysmal though. I read ‘eleven strangers’ on here earlier and that was an apt description. [Post edited 1 Feb 19:28]

No but a lot of booing, aimed at Williams and the players in my opinion. Very poor all round professional footballers should be able to do the basics even if badly coached.

I am really not sure how some slipped through the net and became professional footballers. They certainly don’t look like footballers.
| Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Some would be great in league 2, some even in league one. As it stands I’m struggling actually name a player who is a decent championship contender. Ok, Ben and Darling, wouldn’t say Key or Tymon (who was half decent today) are currently in that mould. Not one of our attackers are. I’m struggling to see anything in Vipotnik. People can say Coleman is ruining the club but Luke has demonstrated no improvement and most of our players have regressed since he has had them. And Eom ! Just awful.

The point with the possession is a high percentage isn’t necessarily good or bad. People are obsessed with it. It’s how effectively you use it. Up until this shocking run, we’d roughly been having as many shots as our opponents. That’s dropped significantly and was even worse yesterday. We were playing aimless long balls to Bianchini and Ronald while they were isolated out wide. We aren’t going to score playing like that whether we have 10% or 90% possession.

Absolutely agree. The thing that continues to frustrate and amaze me is that during post match interviews following a poor performance, he criticizes the team, but seems to absolve himself of any blame.

He’s given up. He knows the team aren’t playing for him and is either going to have a sacking or very likely a relegation on his resume. His post match interviews come across like he’s trying to goad Coleman into it.
Swansea City v Coventry City : Match day thread on 08:18 - Feb 2 with 478 views | PawelAbbott | It's very difficult to see what he was trying to do yesterday. Possibly a back 3 with wing backs, then 2 wingers in front of them and Cullen up front. That leaves very little through the middle and lots of width crossing to no one. First half of the season the squad showed that they could compete and were a midtable side. Since the West Brom saga we are the worst side in the division by some way. It really looks like he has no interest anymore

And Cullen was dropping back into midfield, Fulton and Franco were outnumbered in there, which resulted in us booting balls up to our widemen, who were isolated and easily dealt with. Agree on his interest. I said it would be hard to adapt the way we played within a week, but it looked like he didn’t even try to.

Coventry had 3 playing central midfield against our 2. We were out numbered from the start and had 4 wide players on the pitch. We had arguably 5 more wide players on the bench. The squad is thin and unbalanced. The players we have spent money on are regressing. It's a shambles everywhere you look

Yes exactly. Adding Christie to the back line and playing with two wingers meant we were caught in a no man’s land between being outnumbered in the middle or Cullen dropping back and having no one in between Bianchini and Ronald. Lampard won’t have an easier game all season.

Given what we had available and what we was trying a 3-5-1-1 would have made more sense with possibly Naughton in midfield as we have so few options. Vipotnik ahead of Cullen. What he went with made zero sense at all.

I agree, squad is not good enough, ive seen a post elsewhere saying that changing the manager is no good, as we are stuck with the players we have. doing nothing WILL get us relegated, , a new manager may.....may improve some things, and as youve mentioned it in your post re ignite that player who has sadly regressed.

Vipotnik is rarely a viable option for me. He played half an hour and touched the ball maybe 5 times? I agree though, the formation he went with made no sense and I can’t see he was expecting anything other than what happened. Ginelly had a run out at Cardiff but it’s all gone quiet since
