Sorry Paal 13:34 - Dec 27 with 6261 viewsJules4367

Don't get me wrong, I DO actually like Ken Paal - but only in his attacking format.

I have griped and moaned (as many will know and probably will comment) for the last two seasons and despair at his defending!

How many times are we going to see Paal beaten and a cross come in from close quarters or the goal line to the centre of the box leading to a simple tap in. Time and time again the ball goes to our right and 15 seconds later they score a goal.

(This is how sensitised to this weakness I am, I couldn't watch the match yesterday but was keeping track and asked someone who was at the ground whether any of the first two were balls played past Paal and crossed in to the centre and sure enough one was! I'm not psychic, so how did I know that this WOULD be the case? - and if I know this, other teams know this, but clearly Ken doesn't get it!

Surely they analyse and break down who should have done what for each goal and learn from things don't they? In any job, you WILL make mistakes but the key is to learn from them and not keeping doing more of the same?

Teams playing us probably rub their hands with goal inspired glee when they see Paal on the play sheet as a defender.🤔🤬.

We were unlucky with the third but their second, which put us under pressure was, in my opinion, due to Paal's continued lack of awareness and reaction.

But hey, I am probably once again talking rubbish and someone will advise me as such and cite that he does an outstanding job in defence, and clears balls off the line etc.

Our left side is poor in attack without Paal, like against Bristol we just gave away the ball every time it ended up there. With no creativity on the left side it was all up to our right side…Much better at home to Preston with Paal on the left able to combine with Saiko/ Chair, and Dunne on the receiving end. At our budget we struggle to get a better LB than Paal, when not ill as he apparantly was last game. Paal has been very loyal and professional since lured in by Snake… split opinions as always by fans, we even have some that wouldn’t play Chair….

We'll be recalling Larkeche from his loan next month, Shirley?

Although there remain serious questions about his defensive ability, at least he would provide cover/a different option

Shit but local

Twas a daft idea starting the season with Paal and Fox, and don't call me Shirley ;-)

He's got a hamstring issue so I can't see him being able to play full matches for some time.

Played very well today against a good Norwich team and winger.........

If their player had scored when he passed it to him and put him through on goal, this thread would have been a bit lively. Definitely better than Swansea. A few mistakes but no more or less than any of the rest of the defence. Hopefully he can put in another decent shift against Watford.

Great run and pass to Andersson first half, who could/ should have scored

We spent most of the summer trying to get rid of him so it's no wonder he hasn't looked overly interested all season

Thought he had a good game yesterday though

Norwich still targeted him.

I'd say he's a Damien Delaney esque "OK".

Typically scores between a 5 and a 7.

Need all the defenders we can at the moment.

I'd have Delaney ahead of Paal any day of the week.

Don't injured players return to their parent clubs anymore?

Should be fit in around 6 weeks, I'd recall him.

I think he is back with us, he was in the tunnel congratulating the players after one of the recent home wins.

Is that the Delaney who went on to play in the Premier league for Palace.?

Well if that’s his attitude, we should definitely get rid of him.

I think he'll going January. He's too much of a ball watcher.

It is a real shame that many posters do not see the positives & good play of Paal. He was one of our better players at Norwich, didn't do much wrong apart from a late bad pass. Close to MOM for me but Nardi & Field were ahead of him because they were 'proper' on the day.

In fairness Gaz, Cifuentes is also on the side of those posters as he has had an issue with Paal from day one and was fully behind getting him gone in the summer.

Totally agree with you. I didn't know that our squad was replete with such an embarrassment of riches. There's many an embarrassment in that squad that are far less capable than Paal and largely get a free pass: abject Andersen for starters, who's doubtless earning more than Paal.

Be careful what you wish for. Him and Dunne will both be hard to replace on the budget we now operate. Both played their part in that back four under the MC last season, which formed the bedrock of our recovery to avoid relegation. The way some on here, and at least another thread, denigrate Paal, we've clearly struck a deal for the signature of an Andy Robertson calibre left-back who will be coming through the door imminently. I'm all agog.

He's as good as most left-backs in this league.

Paal had a pretty good game at Norwich especially offensively and came up with og's assist.

Just been down SAR and can confirm there's a line of top notch left backs waiting at the director's entrance for the transfer window to open, along with what looks like several 20 a season strikers.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

Yeah he's not incapable of having a good match/periods of a match. He just switches off sometimes and occasionally for whole games. We need someone a bit more consistent.

He is solid enough for a club who want to consistently finish 18th in the championship.

But we need back up and if we want to progress, he is a decent option as number two left back in the club.

If the player to be our number one option, is possible to employ is another challenge in itself.
