Eng v Den 18:40 - Jun 20 with 13446 views | Rodingdale | A beautiful illustration of how walking football, even with talented players, is dull to watch and how it stifles what talent you have. Probably the worst performance so far in the entire tournament with arguably the most talented group.

Trouble is, we've been watching that type of negative shite all year The injection of direct passing in the last five minutes showed what could have been On another note: great to see someone with such a huge chip on their shoulder they can't resist coming on here to let us know how much they're still weighed down by it... and i don't mean you, rs! Eng v Den on 07:27 - Jun 26 with 3371 views | wheniwasyourage | My grandad had a saying.. 'men against boys' I remembered this when I last watched England, the Euro final against Italy at Wembley. Felt we were the boys led by a youth team couch going up against men. Not watched any England match since (because its shite), so cannot comment. However, from comments here, nothing seems to have changed. That said they are through to the last 16 -anything can happen, including Slovenia winning outright. I do fancy an outsider this year. Eng v Den on 08:27 - Jun 26 with 3290 views | Rodingdale | The similarities with Dale continue for me in that the Manager seems completely unaware that the poor style of play impacts on the fans in their enjoyment of the spectacle. Post match interviews where Southgate plays the victim is just nonsensical. Football, is about winning not just doing enough to qualify. Pragmatism is fine when we’re playing Spain/Chesterfield but not really cutting it against Slovenia/Oxford City.

Terrible AGAIN... There is no excuse. The Gallagher obsession has to end immediately. Possibly the Harry Kane one too. Start with Mainoo / Palmer / Gordon Play Foden and Jude Bellingham as an 8 and a 10 either side of a kicked up the arse Rice. Movement and Pace lacking for 85 minutes last night the only impact second half came when the subs got introduced (Gordon at least 10 minutes to late). Southgate is a busted flush on the evidence of the 3 group games.

Southgate has ridden the wave of getting to a final and a semi-final of a major tournament off the back of some of the easiest runs ever. Who are the good teams England beat en route to those? World Cup 2022 beat Senegal and then lost to a decent team in France. Euro 2020 we played potentially the worst German team ever, Ukraine and Denmark. Lost the tie when we played Italy, the first decent team we came across. World Cup 2018 beat Colombia on penalties, beat Sweden and then lost to the first decent team we played in Croatia. We beat Spain in a Nations League game once, its the only decent team I can remember beating under Southgate. In the last Nations League campaign we were relegated having lost to Hungary twice who couldn't get out of their Euros group. We've landed in by far the easiest side of the draw again this Euros dodging Spain, Germany, Portugal, France and Belgium. There's no excuse for not getting to the final of this now with the players at his disposal.

I think it was Spain in 1996 euros that we last beat a top 10 team in euros or WC, and that was on penalties.

We beat Germany at the last Euros outright - would they not have been top ten? Appreciate they were going through a transition phase, so perhaps not! | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Germany were 12th in the rankings in May 2021. England were 4th. (Italy were 7th) I think the overall stats with Southgate vs top 10 teams is we have played something like 22 games and won 4. For me he should have gone after that Italy defeat in the Euros final, but certainly after the Qatar World Cup. Three tournaments, three attempts at winning a trophy, zero success. And yes, relative to other England managers he has done well - but that says more about previous failures. The aim should be to win tournaments especially with the group of players we currently have but I can't see that happening this time either.
Eng v Den on 14:50 - Jun 27 with 2470 views | Trev | Southgate must surely lay claim to being the luckiest England manager of all time. Another favourable route to a final awaits. Sadly, I fear, he's too much of a f*nny to do anything with it.
Eng v Den on 16:59 - Jun 27 with 2369 views | Morden | OK this is my take on it England + Denmark 2024 = Italy + Uruguay WC 1970. Two turgid groups. England/Italy top the group with a 1-0 win and 2 draws In the knockout stage, Italy turn it on. 4-1 v Mexico; then that 4-3 against West Germany Unfortunately they then came up against the best WC Team ever in the final Well it could happen, but we'll probably get sent home by Slovakia

Could have been more 3 bookings for us in the first 20 minutes due to arsing about and putting team-mates under pressure Static, beyond boring and self-defeating, and that will apply even if we come back from this hole [Post edited 30 Jun 17:29]

Process went out the window; we ended the first 90+ minutes with 7 forwards on the pitch Southgate has got to look at the fresh legs/talent available I thought Toney did well when he came on, caused problems After all that, the last-gasp equaliser can galvanise a squad, where the manager has failed to do

Talking of Walker I thought he had his worst game I've ever seen, he was atrocious not to mention Foden jesus christ it baffles me how lads than can play so well at club level even in European games for their club can't knock a ball 10 yards to a man at this tournament. Having just watched Spain there's a proper side that know when to keep hold of the ball and when to attack with pace, we are light years behind them so far.

But do they play possession football or do they prefer to attack with purpose? I think it was Neville, who summed it in the second half, when we had continued with the walking tippy tappy possession football of passing backwards and sideways, when he asked 'why as he had not basically changed tactics or the system'. It is the question we asked of McNulty last season most games, has he no plan B, throwing the strikers was a desperation tactic, which thankfully worked. What was worse, in the second half of extra time, we set deep and sought to defend the lead, was this down his instructions at the half-time period of extra time. I feel sorry for the players, it must be soul destroying playing these negative tactics.

Them two styles aren't mutually exclusive, they can be used together to prove deadly, Spain do it to perfection, they know when to "fanny" about with the ball then drag teams all over with their passing to then create an opening hit then strike the second there's an opportunity. Whoever beats Spain wins this tournament from what I've seen
Eng v Den on 10:23 - Jul 1 with 945 views | Cedar_Room | up until the 95th minute that was one of the worst England performances I had ever seen. And the blame rests firmly on Southgate's shoulders. How on earth can anyone have watched those first 3 group games and thought - that team is perfect! All we need to do is play the exact same 11 (bar Mainoo coming in for Gallagher) in the exact same formation. The definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results. So inevitably we played awful, again, just as we had in the first 3 games playing with those same players in that same style. It was crying out for changes at half time but it took him until 66 mins to bring on the first sub! then he waited another 20 mins before bring on another! And he brought on Eze FFS!! Ivan Toney had every right to be disgusted at being brought on with 2 mins to go. That's the move you make when you are 1-0 up and are trying to run down the clock!! Southgate is an absolute joke. This is a squad more than capable of winning this tournament and yet game after game after game Southgate has no clue whatsoever about how to get the best out of them. Sticking with players and formations that aren't working clearly draws only one conclusion - he has no plan B. He has no clue whatsoever what to do to make it better. Foden out on the left doesn't work. Kane isolated up front isn't working. Rice in the middle is doing nothing. Trippier at left back is obviously not his position. We are going into this QF against Switzerland as clear second favourites and I have no faith whatsoever that Southgate can get this right. He was saved today by individual brilliance, but I very much doubt against decent opposition we will be in the position where a last minute goal can save us. Nothing bad at all to say about the players they are being asked to play in a way they don't like which is making them all look poor. This is on Southgate, a man clearly and obviously not up to the job.

This sounds like a critique on many a Dale game of the last couple of seasons. Same coaching manual, same tactics, same response.
