No. 1 Jean Tigana. I was convinced that he was the best midfielder in the World. Platini? Pff! Brady? Well, ok...Don Masson...maybe... I used to play 11 v 11 on the carpet with Panini football stickers, lego goals and a marble. Tigana was better than any of them. Ran the show. Always on the winning team, too. A fierce man for the last-minute winner. In real life? Haven't a clue. If he ever saw him on the telly, I'd be surprised. Couldn't even tell you what clubs he played for. But, seriously, look at that wistful little face and tell me there was anyone better.

True, but that club mascot had form.
“A Dalmatian never changes it’s spots” claimed Tad famously in court. Defending himself (clearly a bad move if his football career was anything to go by). Judge Judy wasn’t having any of it.

Unfashionably (for this thread) it was a home grown player for me, someone I saw in the one copy of Shoot I ever bought (aged about 8) and I just thought he looked really cool, and I knew nothing about him (at the time), and he even ended up playing for QPR. Born in Somerset. Proper West Country accent. Palace and Swindon legend. Don Rogers.
That early to mid 80s French midfield of Platini, Giresse, Fernandes and Tigana were absolutely brilliant. A travesty that they were robbed by West Germany of a place in 1982 World Cup final, totally dominated the Euros in 1984 and deservedly won it.
