I get that, and don't get worked up like many on here, just calling the performance as I saw it, lets see how things develop.

1st competitive game Ashby only signed yesterday and has had little time same as Rushworth who I thought had a great game apart from the mind fart pass to Ben.
We got a point it's still early days more signs of optimism for me than negatives but there are still the hangovers from Martin's times...the back 3 were too pedestrian at times and I'm still not convinced about Darling at this level.

With 3 at the back and Grimes dropping deep we have 4 players in a condensed area at the edge of the box. Without the 3 defenders spreading we are unable to play the ball out quickly, its just tippy tappy. Early days but we need a natural left back urgently, Key is too predictable because he is right footed. As I say early days though.

Good points.
Although the back three are pedestrian because there is nothing in front of them. Darling has to be replaced. Thank goodness for Cabango and Wood.
Grimes improved but Fulton had a shocker.

Cabango was easily the worst of the thee defenders today.

I thought he put his boots on the wrong feet, some of his passing was way off today players having to backtrack on numerous occasions to collect the ball.
I thought Darling had a decent enough game, put in some bruising tackles.

Of all our players I think Cabango is the one who blows hot and cold the most, he's so frustrating.

Why do we go from one extreme to the other ?
From far too much possession ,to lump it forward at every opportunity, resulting in a game of ping pong football!
Players need to make the right decision, it’s what intelligent footballers do……..
Managers need to look at the personal you have and work out a system that works best with what you have.
What is so difficult………
Interesting season ahead,

Keeper saves collects sees chance for a quick break and then a tap in

Not to mention the sublime pass from our player to another one of our players who puts in a lovely cross for the tap in.

Exactly, the system in the first half wasnt working, duff changed it a little when cullen came on and it worked a treat.

At least it shows that duff is flexible with his formations.

"Sublime" is overdoing it.

Only a team that has become so accustomed to limited attacking play as we have could Grimes' pass be described in those terms.

"The bare f*cking minimum" is probably closer to the truth.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I thought Key was poor for the first 20.

I also though Jerry Yates worked his socks off and deserved the goal.

Paterson is a waste of a shirt but I have never forgiven him. Shame Ntcham seemingly wants out but I'd rather see Cooper in there than pato.

Cabango's passing was awful and we gifted a goal again, Rushworth put his hand up straight away but why faff about in our own box.

Grimes showed what he's capable of with one sublime pass but for gods sake grimes show that intent more often.

Thought Cullen did well.

Can’t believe you thought Key was poor. He was the only player trying to get forwards with intent.
I haven’t a clue what system we were playing, for the first game that I’ve watched under Duff.
Early days, but wasn’t impressed.

So did I, he should be further up the pitch with Allen playing deeper.

We need him collecting the ball closer to the strikers feeding them.

sublime, high class pass, I've seen it described as both, whilst I agree with the rest of your post, I still see that pass as either sublime or indeed high class.

When we got to the prem, we had players who would make the right decisions on the pitch.
Ash,Monk,Tate,Leon…...leaders.
We now have a load of robots being told daily how/when to pass, move etc.

Cullen's youthful inclusion for Paterson changed the amount of success down the left , Paterson may a useful asset in the opposition box but his work rate and stamina does not match up to what is expected of him. He was playing too far ahead of Keys not giving him a change of options basically we ended up playing when in possession of the ball similarly to Martin's regime with absolutely no one in the middle of the park, The WB playing ably enough but getting isolated as Grimes and Fulton dropped deep and Paterson and Piroe pushed on, we needed the young legs in the centre of the park or a better link up players.
Under Steve Cooper we didn't get it with Hourihane, under Martin we ended up the with either Ollie Cooper, Cundle, Allen when fit and even Ntcham when played in the right position to good effect.
Early days yet midfield duo dropped too deep ending with seven defenders until forced further forward.
On a positive note very good closing down, looked as if we will use WB as fullbacks or wingers as required either to support the backs or forwards.
Really need to get the balances in the middle of the park to ensure quality movement of the ball from backline to forward line with the variation of tactics.

Same in the stadium.
It’s getting harder to actively support us.

It's only one game, but it was up there with some of the worst trash Russell served us. There was a reason the stadium was dead from both sets of fans, the excitement from starting of a season soon evaporated with rubbish football on display.

At times it looked like a Martin team defending and a Cooper team going forward. There were bright spots though, we had four players making debuts and everyone else playing their first competitive game with a new system. It was bound to be patchy.

Our movement in middle of the park wasn't good enough when in possession. We got the ball out wide well and had capable WBs but the needed support was missing from either the forwards not dropping nto the midfield or with the midfielders dropping to deep.
We worked well at times to regain the ball and make the space in the middle but didn't exploit it with better movement off the ball.
Can be hard to sustain control for 90 minutes, teams are quite happy to let you have possession if you can't move it quick enough or be clever enough to use the space that you have created with better movement and ball control.

Hard to open up a in a tight game but have to control the game properly and not let forwards, wingers and defenders get isolated and give forwards and wingers options.

Early days yet but hope Duff gets that central midfield area sorted soon which in my opinion neither Cooper nor Martin did, Cooper didn't have the players and Martin took too long to work it out.
Duff has the players but if Ntcham goes will need to replace him if he is going to be able to give more options.
Thought Cullen give us a different option which was needed by the team, if we hadn't made the stupid error for the goal we could be looking at 3 points instead of 1.

Early days.
