Energy Companies 23:11 - Jul 7 with 10795 views | max936 | We are owed a 4 figure sum off an energy company exposed by Watchdog on the One Show earlier in the week, we've emailed Watchdog but surprisingly they don't want to know. Anybody had a similar experience by them of another company, if yes did they resolve the issue if yes how? Ombudsman is next to useless, and the energy company in question keeps fobbing us off and are clearly intent on not paying up.

Energy Companies on 10:10 - Jul 22 by controversial_jack | How do you know? It's the only system you have lived under. |
Pretty easy you can see the results of other systems across the World. The evidence is easy to find. Over 600,000 people come to the UK every year to take advantage of it. Meanwhile countries like Venezuela are reduced to poverty despite having the world's largest oil reserves. A failure for socialism with over 6,000,000 leaving the country since 2014 to seek a better standard of living in neighbouring countries.

What happened in Venezuela wasn't a failure of socialism at all. It did very well under Chavez - ok, not everything was great, crime was high, but that's similar in most western countries, probably higher than in most communist countries. Cuba has the lowest crime rate in the Caribbean. The so called revolution in Venezuela, wasn't a working class uprising of those unhappy with the regime, it was instigated by the middle classes, big corporations and American influence. The Govt at the time, had the support of the people, and most significantly for south America, the support of the army. As with most left wing countries, Venezuela, Cuba, Russia etc, they face sanctions from the west, that prevents investment into their industries and infrastructures. The Soviet Union didn't collapse because of the arms race or Re gens policy, but because it couldn't get outside investment into it's gas and oil industry. It makes a nice story that Reagan won the cold war, but a story is all it is.

Venezuela had a private and a successful oil industry until it was nationalised in the 1970s. Since then oil output has fallen and is now around 50% of pre-nationlisation totals. This is due to inept management and under investment. Sanctions did not start until many many years later when poverty stricken Venezuela defaulted on its international debts. Billions of international investment happen in Russia so not sure where you got that idea from.

Nope, investment in Russia only happened after it opened up it's markets. The oil infrastructure had stagnated before that

Venezuela has gone down hill, but if we look at what’s happened to our water industry since it’s been privatised it’s hardly been a roaring success. Thames Water is one such example, performance is appalling and the company is potentially in danger of going bust after being saddled with £14bn of debt. Our railways are in a terrible state too. I’m not saying privatisation is bad or good nor am I saying nationalisation is great, far more importantly is the way the businesses are run. With the right people in charge and good regulatory oversight businesses can thrive whether they are in private hands or nationalised.

That argument has already been put forward. Some people insist because something was a certain way it will always be that way, things can only change if we make them change. We have to want it.
