Played a major part in 75/76 and was a pleasure every time he came back. Really enthused about the club. Think of Andy Sinton but twenty years earlier. RIP Sir.
That's sad. A key part of our greatest ever team who did a lot of the midfield donkey work that allowed the flair players in that team to perform. RIP John.
I remember him as our coach during the 90’s. He was often on the pitch before the match warming up the goalkeepers. He was always greeted with a clap when he entered and exited the pitch and always returned the favour. RIP John.
Very sad news. He was a key member of the mid 70s squads and helped out in the "we're not Arsenal anymore movement" management of the late 90s, Same age as when my dad died. RIP John and condolences to the family.
Oh no! He seemed like a nice guy. I went to a fan's forum thing when he was manager. All I remember is someone saying we need a right back and his answer being "we've got Mark Perry."

i have been johns postman for the past 8 years and i must say he was really such a great man, always happy to say hello and have a quick chat with me and knowing that i was a rangers fan would often tell stories of his time at the club both as a player and a manager and of his friendship with frank mc lintock.
over the past few years especially post covid his health has been in decline to the extent that he was wheel chair bound and not communicating like he used to so today has not come as a surprise.
Very sad news. He was a fine player when with us at the time when we did good business bringing the right players to the club something we seemed to lose in the 90's. I guess you could compare him to Holloway in what he did on the pitch.
I think I am right remembering him as manager of Chelsea when we won 6-0 and then manager of Swansea when they stuffed us 4-0 in the FA cup in 2001. If I am not going senile the Swansea debacle was live on ITV, one of many TV horror shows by us since the millennium commenced.
Best to remember John as our player when times were better for us. RiP John

Slightly before my memory banks kicked in but came across as hard working, decent and everyday Jo.
My friend has informed me his son won Strictly Come Dancing as was a Breakfast TV presenter at the time.
They both had a squeaky voice. Random.
