I hold the record - Boro Match Thread 09:30 - Feb 17 with 41032 views | Superhoops2808 | So I hold the current record. The last time I started a match thread, we won against Preston in what feels like last year... Oh wait, it was - The 17th December and the last time we recorded a victory So, exactly 2 months later, I have decided to start a match thread in the hope that this will turn the fortunes around. I am going to go for another 0-1 away win. And why the optimism? Well a) eventually we have to win and b) Boro may feel like we are ripe for the taking (which we are) and be more relaxed about the whole match Wishful thinking, but anyway - Lets see
I hold the record - Boro Match Thread on 00:08 - Feb 19 with 2366 views | traininvain | If Tim’s one of the main problems with the team then why was there no noticeable difference in performance and results when he was dropped for a few games? If anything we were worse hence why he’s back in the team. The obvious problem is that our other options in midfield are even worse.
I hold the record - Boro Match Thread on 00:10 - Feb 19 with 2359 views | Northernr | I asked LF in the interview if we're financially penalised for not picking the loans. He said 'no, not all of them, some of them we are' and I think it's pretty blatantly bloody obvious that Tim is one of those now. Him playing CM while Field is right wing. The thing for me about today is that was a significant improvement. But that's how bad we are - a 3-1 away defeat, with two shots on target, is a significant improvement on what we have been producing.

I haven't seen anything back yet, was it not a penalty? Looked absolutely nailed on from where we were in the other corner - going to ground stupidly in your own box.

it was a good tackle imho, but my reference to him was a generalised one! [Post edited 19 Feb 2023 0:37]

Pretty clear from the tv it was a penalty despite what NC thinks once an attacker cuts back and his legs are taken out the result is always a PK.Even if VAR was involved I suspect they would go with the ref. Just adds to Tim's adventures that have cost us dearly this year. 2 penalties in 5 days have really cost us IMO.We could have sneaked a point both times but today was massive for the players, fans and managment . Better effort means nothing as we crunble again.

Yeah, I thought it was a pen initially but on the replay it looked more like he took the ball cleanly. Thing is though he went in fast and slid across the turf to make contact, then the Boro player went down. It was always going to be close whichever way it was called. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

At least they're our players and they couldn't do any worse than the current mob. Besides the club have always maintained that the attraction of playing for QPR is that it provides a clear pathway to the first team to up-and-coming talent. If you're in the reserves and you're playing well, you'll be looking at the current first team results thinking 'surely I deserve a chance now'. If you're not given that chance then you'll look to ply your trade elsewhere. I say throw 1 or 2 in until the "injuries" clear up.

I hold the record - Boro Match Thread on 22:24 - Feb 18 by VancouverHoop | I'm not saying they won't make it, I'm saying the timing isn't optimal. There's a time to blood young players and the middle of a record-breaking losing streak isn't optimal. One might flourish, but another two or three might might find their confidence severely damaged, even irrecoverable. Especially if the our fans take against them as some have against Iroegbunam. |
I agree with you, a relegation battle is not the time to blood more or less untried youngsters. But judgjing by that team and bench yesterday, we were down to 12 regular 1st team outfield players. Unless we are going to bring in more experienced out of contract back ups some more of our U23/B teamers are likely going to be needed anyway. Many here are so focused on Tim's mistakes, there were a few but he was our most dangerous and creative in that midfield 3 getting us out of dangerous situations, breaking up their play, and moving us forward with his technical skills, long legs and creative balls into dangerous area for Boro. He also made some great tackles and interceptions, and from what I've seen that was never a pen. [Post edited 19 Feb 2023 6:38]

I let an anguished "noooooooooo" when the ref gave it, never looked a pen to me, the movement of the ball showed that, as Tim pointed out. But the ref gets one look, Northern got one look in the ground, and thought it was. But, he chased the bloke down, made a possible goal-saving tackle, got very unlucky. Previous posts tell that I am not very enamoured of Tim, but I certainly wouldn't castigate him for that tackle. In hindsight, a young lad learning his role and with his attributes wasn't what we needed. Reckon he'd be a positive higher up the pitch in a decent team with better options. I do wonder if this loan will help or hinder him, but at least he is prepared to play week in week out. Resilience is one of the most undervalued traits in todays world.
I hold the record - Boro Match Thread on 08:26 - Feb 19 with 1770 views | davman | Not seen any of yesterday's game as I stuck to my promise of keeping well away from it, but Tim has been a shocking signing. A show Pony, who does enough in "safe" areas to look good, but with no end product - ZERO goals ZERO Assists and responsible for 4-5 goals against this season. A 'Kin liability. On yesterday' s team selection, it seems as though he could have changed the formation, but not the personnel. Bare bones 'cos of our failures in the transfer market.

Yes and to be fair when Tim was brought in we had or thought we had a decent team with better options around and ahead of him. - Willock, Chair, Field, Roberts, Richards, Dykes, Johansen. Only Field and Chair for varying reasons have been consistently ok options, though Chair was a way off his best yesterday, other than that great goal. [Post edited 19 Feb 2023 8:57]

That's what happens if we have a transfer policy of signing injury prone players on the cheap. It catches up eventually. Am I right in assuming the DoF sets out the transfer strategy?
I hold the record - Boro Match Thread on 09:06 - Feb 19 with 1678 views | BklynRanger | Penalty or not he shouldn't have given the ref the decision to make, flying in like that. So many different views of Tim Oranjeboom and they're all correct I think. He was the one chasing back to try to prevent it after all. But then at another given moment he'll fall over in a key area expecting a free and causing mayhem, or flick it into space like he's in training for the opposition to go and terrorise poor Rob Dickie with. Against Sunderland he had one of the very few bits of midfield quality I remember - in the first half - put in a good challenge, moved forward, played a ball round the corner and up the middle for Chair to attack. But for every great moment there are two dodgy ones, sometimes more of late, and if his head goes down it stays down - but that's not too different to most of our other snowflakes (borrowing that term from the political gurus on here if that's ok...) Either way we as a club should no way be taking on loans that we have to fork over money if they don't play - I noticed it too in Les's interview and it's insane. That idea shouldn't even be on the spreadsheet or anywhere near the algorithm.

The rentier economy is all consuming. In a more based reality, they would be paying us for training up their apprentice.
